The islands don't count EVERYTHING is more expensive there :winkwink:

Rochard 02-21-2003 12:25 AM

It was $1.79 in Phoenix today when I filled up.

Fuck...... Everyone is saying this crap with Iraq is "about the oil". I guess they were wrong.

Aussie Rebel 02-21-2003 12:25 AM

I'm paying $1.10 a litre here in OZ

Shooter 02-21-2003 12:31 AM

Man it's nice living in oil country

I paid $1.67 for premium last night here in Oklahoma

Fire 02-21-2003 12:33 AM

Don't blame it all on Iraq. Venezula is on strike and to the best of my knowledge is not producing any oil.. which can deliver quite a blow considering they are one of the top 5 oil producing nations.

Maybe we should drill in ANWR???

KrazieSweets 02-21-2003 12:34 AM

Its about $1.70 here per gallon

Snake Doctor 02-21-2003 12:36 AM

Yeah gas prices have way more to do with the strike in Venezuela and the storm that hit the northeast recently.

Prices probably will drop once the war is over though

Shit, the gas you have is usually refined in the SF Bay Area, and we often have HIGER prices than you! I drive by the Richomd Oil Fields on the way to the Airport, I SEE the tankers, and I wonder how gas in HI can be less than gas in N. CA? Id there even a refinery in HI?

WTF? Thank God I do not have to drive much . . .

picindex 02-21-2003 12:45 AM

just filled up at $1.93...

I remember a few years ago gas was $0.99 in a few places in orange county.

Of course we should. It seems like common sense to me. More exploration would be good too.

I just started a thread with this - didn't see this one first....

I just heard on CNN that retail gas prices are up 56 cents a gallon this year. (U.S)

BUT - the wholesale price is only up 14 cents, and that is because of the labor strikes in Venezuela.

So is it our local gas stations that are ripping everyone off, their local distributors? Someone is taking serious advantage of the situation aren't they?

It went up from $0,83 a litre to $0,9 a litre here & still growing.
I'm happy, that my car is eating Propan Butan instead of gas. It's around $0,36 per litre with almost same l/km rate & it's price is same for years.

Toker 02-21-2003 03:30 AM

The Netherlands is a tiny country. You can't drive for more than a couple of hours in any direction.

Stop bitching.

funkmaster 02-21-2003 05:02 AM

pumping gas is supporting terrorism ...

In the US, State gax taxes range pretty widely .. from around 8 cents/gallon in Alaksa to 38 cents in Illinois which causes much of the discrepancies. Hawaii is around 38 cents/gallon also.

Other factors contribute too, of course.

---------

Major factors on current high gas prices:

1. Venezuela
2. Iraq
3. Low US oil reserves

The US imports about 3 times as much oil from Venezuela as Iraq.

Venezuelan oil workers are still on strike. The US is still importing at 50% of normal capacity though.

US crude supplies at their lowest in 25 years.

Interesting. With modern drilling equipment and increased stability, industry experts think Iraq could yield more than twice as much oil as it does now.

Some analysts think some countries are hoarding gas reserves and will release them on the market as prices rise, especially at the onset of a war.

The International Energy Agency will probably release 1-2 million barrels a day of reserve crude oil at the onset of a war though so will be interesting to see those two factors in play at the same time.

More from Venezuela? More from Iraq? Who knows. At any rate, a lack of a stable substantial back-up supply weighs heavily on prices.

This is what I had a hard time understanding when I lived in the Bay Area. Then I read, because of the gas wars that go on in Southern California. Got's 2 get that money back somehow.

KRL 02-21-2003 08:50 AM

You thought with a Texas Oil Man in the White House the price of gas would be lower?

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Down here in Florida gas is pretty well priced compared to the rest of the US. Right now I'm paying $1.59 a gallon.

You must be in Europe. I remember in the 1960's in Germany I was paying $ 2.50... In Texas at that time it was $ 0.19, I thought shit glad I work in the Motor Pool, 5 Gallon's would take my little VW half way across Europe.

Easton 02-21-2003 08:56 AM

it's C$0.875 a litre here...

when you work it out, it's still more expensive than US gas prices, so quit complaining...

Interlude 02-21-2003 09:50 AM

They're going broke guys, give 'em a break already!
-----------

Oil analyst Fadel Gheit of Fahnestock & Co. said crude oil prices have actually risen much faster than pump prices over the last year, causing oil companies to lose money on the refining and marketing side of the business.

"All the refining and marketing operations in the United States last year lost money, huge money, hundreds of millions of dollars. Would they have done that if they could fix prices and gouge consumers?" he said.

clickpimp 02-22-2003 03:32 AM

we'll have control of the iraqi oil fields soon enough. bet we can get 5x the production they currently get.

eroswebmaster 02-22-2003 04:24 AM

No fucking kidding I paid $1.87 for medium grade today...about shit my pants...premium was $1.98

Herb Kornfield 02-22-2003 08:08 AM

$1.78 for Super on the NJ turnpike, $1.93 off the turnpike for the same thing.

Having 2 SUVs really has become a bit more costly, but, I dont drive cars, too damm low.
