About time the gas prices go up in the US so you guys will get rid of those 6 liter engine cars.

I drive a 5.7 liter, don't know of any higher off the top of my head and I get 19 mpg doing pretty much 100% city driving....SUVs are the problem

I live in a resort area and our prices are 10-15 cents more than Atlanta during the off season and 20-25 cents more during the tourist season. I can usually time it to fill up in Atlanta and I don't drive that much, but my son drives at least 2 round trips a week to school. It's about $1.60 a gallon here off season, about $1.45 in Atlanta. GA has some of the least expensive gas in the states.

I get 18 MPG "city" (I live in the boonies and I drive up and down the mountains - kinda of hard to call it the city, lol!) and 20-21 MPG on the HWY in my SUV and it seats 7. I figure that's better than the 25-30 MPG econoboxes that only seat 4 :) And yes, most of the times we do take the SUV instead of taking 2 cars.

The average car in europe does 30+MPG
I'm not a greenpeace pussy but it's pretty obvious that those american cars are very bad for the environment.
Gas is around $4.5 a gallon here.
The average car has a 1.8 liter engine instead of the 4liter average in the US.

It's pretty high here in Montreal too.... 0.89 per litre.
I don't expect anyone in the US to understand what a litre is...

Imperial gallon or US gallon?

Those Americans.... always wanna be different... :winkwink:

Evil Chris 02-22-2003 09:55 AM

50 cents

a litre would be nice

Lane 02-22-2003 10:00 AM

1 gallon = 3.79 litre

I remember seeing the gas price up to $2 per litre in Luxembourg. It's a small country but still.. it is like over $7 per gallon..

JeremySF 02-22-2003 10:05 AM

It's been over $2.00 in San Francisco for like 2 years.......finally the rest of the country is almost as much of a rip-off as it is here. All the more reason to dump your SUV!!!

But this does confirm why i think it's a joke that invading Iraq is about oil. If it was about oil, why do oil prices always spike when it comes to the middle east.

It costs me almost 10 bucks when I drive to/from work.

In the US, State gax taxes range pretty widely .. from around 8 cents/gallon in Alaksa to 38 cents in Illinois which causes much of the discrepancies. Hawaii is around 38 cents/gallon also.

Other factors contribute too, of course.

---------

Major factors on current high gas prices:

1. Venezuela
2. Iraq
3. Low US oil reserves

Ok the first two I buy, but low us oil reserves? We are sitting on Alaska!

J-Reel 02-22-2003 02:58 PM

It's G Dubya and friends creating an illusion of supply problems so the industry can raise prices to cover loses. They then blame it on Venzuela and iraq.
