Running Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Update cost $29.00 and took about an hour to install. No issues installing. 1Password requires a beta version that can be downloaded from their site. Everything else running well and faster. Love it!

hypedough 08-28-2009 11:42 AM

Any real speed difference?

DateDoc 08-28-2009 11:47 AM

The speed increase is noticeable.

digifan 08-28-2009 11:53 AM

I want it, I need it for my mac mini.. just maxed out my epass doh.

Brujah 08-28-2009 12:08 PM

Isn't it supposed to take up much less disk space too? Did it clear out a lot of extra files?

It's about 1/2 the size.

They dumped all the legacy PowerPC files and the printer drivers.

I do that with all of my OSX install anyhow. It usually frees up 4-7 gb.

Spudstr 08-28-2009 12:10 PM

Installed it this morning, and indeed it is a bit faster.

It is about half the size of Leopard. Approx 14GB of freed up space.

Serge Litehead 08-28-2009 12:15 PM

KillerK 08-28-2009 12:31 PM

Brujah 08-28-2009 12:40 PM

munki 08-28-2009 12:42 PM

Orders in...

Sosa 08-28-2009 12:48 PM

$29.99 for the upgrade? Damn that's cheap.

NETbilling 08-28-2009 12:48 PM

Can you download it or must wait for the CD to ship?

Sosa 08-28-2009 12:53 PM

Just ordered it. Would be nice to just download it and have it install.

It is mostly improvements to speed up the Mac. Not too much has changed as in new gadgets. QuickTime was improved. You can record videos with it now and also record the desktop. Exchange support added.

You have to wait for the CD to ship or pick it up at the apple store.

Even though this is an upgrade from leopard to snow leopard rumor is you can go straight from tiger with the snow leopard upgrade disk @ $29.00 and do not need the full snow leopard box which is $169. Save that $140! :thumbsup

DeanCapture 08-28-2009 01:40 PM

Waiting for mine to arrive now. It's on the delivery truck - just hasn't made it here yet : (

GeoBeo 08-28-2009 01:44 PM

I pre-ordered mine this past Monday and says it wont be delivered until Sept 1. I should've waited to buy it at the store today. I cant wait to install it.

ianlester 08-28-2009 01:48 PM

Really annoying you can't download online.

XSV 08-28-2009 02:24 PM

Family pack getting installed tonight. :thumbsup

Karupted Charles 08-28-2009 02:25 PM

Running it here. It has some nice small feature changes and yes there is a speed increase on certain things. More programs will be affected as they upgrade to the new architecture.

gleem 08-28-2009 02:37 PM

wait a month people, always let someone else do the beta testing, been doing this since OS 7 and it always works out!!

DeanCapture 08-28-2009 05:16 PM

Installed it on my MacBook Pro and my iMac. So far....so good : )

I'll wait a few days before installing it on my Mac Pro - just to be safe!

Manowar 08-28-2009 05:19 PM

orddered it just now

Thurbs 08-28-2009 05:30 PM

huge improvements, some shit they will most likely need to patch or 3rd party people will, but all in all great.

interesting new feature. I always run my MBP with a 30" monitor at the office and one at my home office. now, each 30" monitor has it's own BG and i still have a different one on the laptop screen. weird little thing but cool.

born4porn 08-28-2009 05:33 PM

Thanks 4 the heads up. It looks like I will have to grab it for my MacPro and Macbook Pro! :thumbsup

JustDaveXxx 08-28-2009 06:44 PM

Porn Grounds 08-28-2009 08:14 PM

Either way..check if all your software will be compatible http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

NaughtyRob 08-28-2009 08:48 PM

Huffer 08-28-2009 08:54 PM

ordered a few days ago - showed up today (free shipping).

It freed ~10GB of space and yea it does feel "snappier" worth the price of admission imho. Only thing I needed to update so far has been little snitch.

DraX 08-28-2009 09:29 PM

Does it work on my mac from 1980 ?

This thread misses all the awesome info of an upgrade such as the Snow Leopard.

http://www.ixdownload.com/news/best-...w-leopard.html

By the way are they first with the OpenCL feature ?

Ha, no it does not. Requires an Intel based Mac. That is one of the reasons it is lighter as it has no support for power PC.

I was at the apple store at 10am this morning :thumbsup The 64 bit OSX upgrade is MUCH faster on my pro than the previous version of leopard was. Supposed to run our GeForce cards better as well... havent tested any games yet, the new Quicktime player look is legit and clean. Overall: :thumbsup
