Do you play the lottery?

I keep thinking I should by a lottery ticket but then never do. Every once in the blue moon I get a couple. My mother in law plays every single week and has just won her first £80. She is too excited for me to point out she has spent way more than £80 to win. Still, as they say, you can't win if you don't play.

Do you play the lottery?

Jack Sparrow 06-16-2009 07:27 AM

Never again anymore, i have more chance of getting cash by working my ass of it seems.

pornguy 06-16-2009 07:33 AM

I used to but they dont have a reliable one here.. But I have my brother pick up tickets from time to time.

bronco67 06-16-2009 07:33 AM

I can't stand that every time I go into my local convenience store, there's always at least 5 morons ahead of me in line, buying lottery tickets -- reading off numbers they hand picked, like that fucking matters. Some of them buy those scratch tickets, then scratch them off right at the register, so I have to push the zombie out of my fucking way.

It's gambling for retards. They should just make real gambling legal, so all of these mongoloids can blow their money somewhere other than where I buy my newspaper.

moeloubani 06-16-2009 07:34 AM

i hear if you play the lottery every week then its unlikely you'll win until 270,000 years have passed

yes i play :(

just one line, one encore ($3 ticket) because like you said, can't win if you don't play!

Ross 06-16-2009 07:41 AM

If the Euro Millions hits insane numbers I throw a couple of tickets on. Generally tho I don't play it.

About 11 years ago my mum got 5 numbers on the lottery tho and won almost £2000.

More recently about 7 years ago my Dad didnt put his usual weekly ticket on and with the Jackpot at £20,000,000 his numbers came up. He played it every week since the birth of his son to my step mum and the one week he forgot his numbers come in. 2 people shared the 20 million but it should have been 3. The numbers he played every week were to do with his sons birthday and so on. He still thinks about it to this day as well.

woj 06-16-2009 07:42 AM

Nah, it's more fun to earn the $$...

beerptrol 06-16-2009 07:53 AM

Only when the jackpot is over 100 mill But I usually forget to buy a ticket, but remember to buy some beer

Vicious_B 06-16-2009 07:56 AM

I get some scratch offs sometime for fun, not thinking it will seriously lead to anything. Some people do get lucky. Saw a story about a woman who won a million on a scratch off and continued playing. She won another million from the same store with another scratch off. What the hell are the odds of that do you think??

Manowar 06-16-2009 07:59 AM

nah, can't say i do

bbobby86 06-16-2009 08:11 AM

i play some lottery only one time... i don`t win 350.000 $...

EscortBiz 06-16-2009 08:14 AM

in ny state your best bet is to get a 52week subscription, you pick out say 6 set of numbers and they play it for you every week, you win they mail you a check

Kenny B! 06-16-2009 08:15 AM

Nope, my father and brother in law play all the time so I figure I'm covered. My dad got 5/6 number twice, one paid $12k and the other $50k, so he's ahead but he's been playing the same numbers for 30 years now.

Yen_HerbalRevenue 06-16-2009 08:21 AM

I play from time to time whenever I remember.

WarChild 06-16-2009 08:34 AM

In general, then chances are better you'll be hit by lightening than win a major lottery jackpot.

You need to look into making it a syndicate arrangement then or the tax man is going to get 50% of your 50% :)

Sosa 06-16-2009 10:00 AM

I buy a few powerball tickets a week

Steve OSS 06-16-2009 10:37 AM

I don't play the lottery really at all. Like you, I will randomly play every now and then, but maybe once or twice a yr max...My mother is the same way; if she ever wins (hopefully she does, she's been playing since I can remember) I will most likely have to hold my tongue from saying "Ma you probably don't realize how many times more you spent on the lottery than you actually won from that ticket!”

Yngwie 06-16-2009 10:41 AM

I play it every now and then. A few months ago I played a lotto here here Canada (Super 7), the jackpot was $12 000 000 at the time and I matched SIX of the 7 #'s.. ARGGGG! 1 # off from $12 000 000. I won a whole $1970.70. Was sure better than 0, but far off from $12 000 000.

Sly 06-16-2009 10:49 AM

Lottery is a legal way to tax the poor an obscene amount. Same with "illegal" numbers games, etc.

I think people do it for that one shot of a thrill. A little excitement for one dollar.

CIVMatt 06-16-2009 11:00 AM

While the lotto is a tax on the poor, if it's some record breaking high payout or something I'll buy one for fun, other then that I like to throw scratch off in on gifts and stuff for fun.

In Canada, whatever we win on any lotto is tax free. Even if you would win $1 000 000 000 it would be 100% tax free.

SilentKnight 06-16-2009 11:15 AM

The wife and her co-workers pool together for lottery tickets each week - that's enough for us.

I couldn't agree more, that is the most annoying fucking thing in the world! I'm so sick of having to wait 12 minutes for all those losers to buy their lottery tickets just so I can get a coke. Fuck!

We do have legalized gambling here though, but it hasn't helped at all. They are still just as bad if not worse.

That isn't what I meant by taxes.

Government sanctioned lotteries are typically created to generate revenue for somebody's pet project or sometimes even something that needs to be done. So people buy lottery tickets in hopes of winning a massive amount of money, while the likelihood of doing so is so beyond extremely minimal it's just silly. Playing the lottery makes absolutely no financial sense... however, people like a cheap thrill. And that's what it is.

The typical lottery player is someone with a relatively small income. Well-to-do people do not play the lottery. That's what is meant by "taxing the poor."

Naughty 06-16-2009 12:26 PM

I do. Gotta be in it to win it.

Yngwie 06-16-2009 12:31 PM

I didn't look at it that way. I guess I should have thought about that, but ya, I agree with that.So many people will buy a shit load of tickets in hopes of winning the big one, but it almost never happens. So after they have spend whatever free $ they had and not win shit they are now broke. Of course, they will repeat the patter over and over thinking that their day will come.

I'm a fan of lottery pools. Get a handful of people together and buy a few quick pics once a week. That's how my cousin won.

Scott McD 06-16-2009 12:45 PM

Used to always play it, but i never do now. The only problem is i used to pick the same numbers every week, so i know them off by heart. If i checked one day and they all came up i'd be a bit pissed, that's for damn sure... :Oh crap

Ace_luffy 06-16-2009 01:30 PM

i try before , there's excitement specially when the price goes million$$$ but after that , a loss....

HomerSimpson 06-16-2009 01:59 PM

lottery is tax for morons...

GrouchyAdmin 06-16-2009 02:01 PM

Every time I file my taxes.

GTS Mark 06-16-2009 02:02 PM

yep the whole office puts in for the lottery... We almost need someone part time to handle the amount of BS it takes to get money in on time and such LOL!

I prefer activity that I have some control over. My girlfriend is addicted to Keno and she explains it as entertainment value. Just don;t see it.

Oh fuck that would suck. That is the percise reason I dont play the same numbers. I only play the lotto when its over 15million

Klen 06-16-2009 02:37 PM

u-Bob 06-16-2009 02:45 PM

Yeah man tell me about it. I could be a spoilt rich kid. Scott McD will tell you, I like to bring that story up once in a while when we're all partying haha.

I told him to call the newspapers and sell his story coz he had his last 5 tickets with the same numbers, so he would have got some cash for his story, but he said nah it clearly wasn't meant for him... hehe
