Is it legal to kill someone's cat if it comes on my property?
 

I have this cat that comes every fucking night and digs thru my trash making complete mess outside. I finaly caught that bustard and was going to shoot him with my beebee gun but then changed my mind. Its a hose cat and has a tag, but runs around all night long.
Would it be legal to kill that sob next time he comes around?

No of course its not legal you can be charged with animal cruelty and theft, many things.

Very few places have leash laws for cats, but if your municipality has them, call animal control. Don't shoot it - it's not doing anything wrong. Shoot the neighbors ;)

They sell trash cans that are pretty hard to get into.

Cat killers are scumbags. Humans have a higher mental capacity than cats... well, at least most of us do. If you can't keep a cat out of your trash perhaps you're thinking of killing the wrong member of your little duet?

Find out where the cat lives and talk to the owner. If the owner claims that it's not their cat making the mess, then tell them you will put a bunch of rat poison in your trash and not to be pissed if their cat finds it and dies.

Be a good guy and buy a trash can lid or a new trash can. Don't kill someone's pet, or even a stray cat.

It has a lid. he pushes it off somehow and then digs thru plastic bags.

Put the can in the garage, or get some bungee cords to hold the lid on.

Or you can just admit that the cat is smarter than you are and your only solution is to resort to violence. :thumbsup

Cats run around because its their nature. It returns to your trashcan because it have learned that there is something good in there. You cant really blame it.

Killing the cat is a guaranteed way to have the whole neighborhood turn against you

Why don't you try a fucking trash can you trailer trash cat killer? I can almost see your house, bags all over the place, cats are small creatures, you must be a real filthpig for it to be able to dig through your crap..

However, it is legal to contact animal control and have them lend you a cage so that you can capture the cat. Once you capture him, call animal control and they will take him away. It will then be the owners responsibility to go to the animal shelter and claim his or her cat within 2 - 4 weeks or they will put the cat to sleep.

Seriously, Rubbermaid sells a can at Lowes/Home Depot with handles that come up and lock the lid. It's around $20 IIRC. Even keeps the raccoons out of mine. Bears.......not so much. If it figures out how to pop the lids get a chain and put it through the handles once they are over the lid. It's not rocket surgery ;)

No cat could ever open a Granger or Waste Management trash dumpster or whatever you call it that everyone has where I'm from.

god damn, if it was that easy I would have chained the fucking thing and TNT on the lock so it would detonate if a cat touches it. The CITY provides trash bins to everyone. You HAVE to have their trash bin with city logo on it and blah blah.

I don't know ask someone who lives there. Don't think its any colder than frozen mexico where you live ;)

Then break down and do what I do in the summer when the bears are out - I put the trash on my back screened in porch and take it to the dumpster once a day or so.

Are all your other neighbor's getting hit? If not, then they are doing something you're not doing - find out what it is. If they are then all get together and talk to the cat's owner. Again, it's NOT THE CAT'S FAULT.
