Little smokies
Indian fry bread taco's or just fry bread drizzled with honey
Actual Tex-Mex food and not the chain BS.
Properly booked buffalo
Arby's roastbeef with plenty of horsey sauce and some bbq.
Authentic slow cooked BBQ, look for beef in that region.
Fried chicken
Virginia picnic ham (I'm sure you can get it in Phoenix)
Moon pies
Country fried steak and gravy (and if your lucky green beans where the bacon and bacon fat outnumber the beans)
A bottle of vodka and the sonic's drink menu or just the drink menu
Fried balogna (must be the hand cut thick shit with the plastic red wrapper and not Oscar Mayer packaged crap)

Well thats like at least a days worth as long as you do not start at the bottom first. Oh and you mentioned hotdogs, honestly every city seems to have its own specialty so always try one where ever you go.

thats not American food, thats junk food.

Come down to new orleans and have some authentic American seafood cooking or something, but please dont consider that fatty food "USA Food"

I havent touched a twinkie or anything like it it in years and many Americans do not at that crap.

viki 03-20-2008 06:12 AM

If you can find funnel cake, that's a must. They mostly just have it at carnivals around here, though.

Tried a good chili yet? As in no beans and just red sauce and meat. Ok a green chili is acceptable too.

dynastoned 03-20-2008 06:18 AM

Arizona is probably a really weak place to get a good taste for US food. although i can't say for sure.. you'd be better off visiting SF on NY as they'd have a very good selection of great food here.

Those are Buffalo style wings but just awful. None of the wings at the pizza chains are any good either IMO. The restaurant "Buffalo Wild Wings" makes a really good chicken wing if there is one in AZ.

A chili's does not serve chili if that makes sense, or at least not any good chili. Its an icky chain.

My best bet would say ask a local or find a real BBQ place as they may have it, with an emphasis on may.

On another note I am very fond of chile reneo's.
And stay the hell away from places like taco bell, those types of places are not indicative of actual cuisine.

I would guess that drink was horchata. It is a rice based Mexican drink.
There are a crap load of different taco's too. Al pastor is just one meat type. You just need to know that if they fry their taco shells you are in the wrong place.

Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies
Cajun Boiled Peanuts

ADL Colin 03-20-2008 06:38 AM

DutchTeenCash,

When I was in NL a few months ago I tried bree, honey and almond flakes on toast. It was in one of the restaurants around the square from the Krasnapolsky. Is that a traditional Dutch breakfast selection?

no

its something belgium/french style and made up, french cheese is eaten after the meal in France never during the day or for lunch

its

soup
entree
main
desert
cheese

we have nothing for breakfast - coffee thats it, the 50 course breakfast you get in the Amsterdam hotel is just for the tourists and since they charge 40 bucks for that no dutchie does that
