Ok So I Have Some Juicy Zango Info

ok so if you look at this screenshot of the zango installer you'll notice that the installer has a pre checked "I am over 18 years old" box at the bottom http://www.zango.com/resources/image...e/zangoUCI.jpg

But as I thought about zango for a minute and what they offer it came to me, Zango does not offer ANY content on their site aimed at people over 18 years old! Just about everything on their site is for kids with all their games and stupid videos. So does this mean that zango is aiming the porn site popups at children as I could not find any content that would intise over 18's to download zango. Also the 18 years old box is PRECHECKED so most people would just hit return and never notice this box but if it was not prechecked then they would loose a lot of customers as everything is aimed at kids, So in affect you buy traffic from zango your really sending porn to children this really disturbs me. I do admit that there will be a lot of over 18's with zango but I would say most are under 18. Just an observation! So what do you think guys is zango intentionally serving up porn to children? Is this grounds for reporting zango to some sort of regulator? Or am I just looking to far into this!

Tuga 11-19-2006 06:34 PM

Yes I am sure they get A LOT of kids with zango installs. Maybe not the majority of users, but a lot for sure. And having that pre-checked is just wrong. But then, everything about scumware is just wrong.

Daruma 11-19-2006 06:35 PM

no surprise..
sucks
but no surprise...

jacklaidlaw 11-19-2006 06:37 PM

that would be like me making a porn paysite with barbie dolls and my little pony on the front page and once they sign up they get hardcore porn instead

RawAlex 11-19-2006 06:37 PM

The pre-checked approve or over 18 boxes are directly against the rules that Zango has agreed to adhere to from Truste for toolbar and download installs.

Zango pre-checks every approve, accept, or over 18 box... corporate policy.

Just slightly scummier than everyone else.

CaptainHowdy 11-19-2006 06:37 PM

Fuckers !!

xclusive 11-19-2006 06:46 PM

fuck zango.

Missie 11-19-2006 06:47 PM

When I used to have a site on adware/spyware/malware, I got a lot of emails from parents who let their kids on the family computer and sure enough computers were full of crap. Parents seemed to always be the ones to notice something was very wrong with the system, but most of the time kids were the ones who got this shit in the computer in the first place. Yes kids got a lot of popups too, including porn.

Computers were infected with MANY adware programs as most of them come bundled. One woman who had emailed me about removing zango (it kept coming back after uninstalling it) a few years back had gotten it when she downloaded a free kids game for her DAYCARE use.

A lot of this stuff is aimed at kids... simple reason for this, they don't read anything!! They just want to get the free game or whatever it is they want, so they click "yes", "ok", "I agree" but they have no clue what they're getting. My niece is 11 years old and every time she touches the computer, it ends up with some crap in it. All she does is play games and chat with friends. Good thing she has her own and no valuable info in it.

jacklaidlaw 11-19-2006 07:00 PM

exactly my point missie! but is this not deemed illegal to in effect aim porn at children?

starpimps 11-19-2006 07:01 PM

silly zango tactics...thats pretty low

Again, I am not fluent in zango, but I thought it only popped up on the keywords or URL's that were purchased.

Wouldn't that mean that mainstream is using this against their competition too? So unless the kid did a search for porn they aren't going to get hit with cams, but if they do a search for My Little Pony, they might get Barbie popping up.

Right?

Right?

Or maybe they do a search for "Barbie" and get ads for Lannie Barbie?

fusionx 11-19-2006 07:11 PM

is Christina Aguilera nude in this or is it a see-though top? her nipples look fucked up..

http://www.zango.com/destination/cat....aspx?pid=9781

here's laura prepon masturbating

http://www.zango.com/destination/cat....aspx?pid=9954

Looks like they're grabbing their content off the web. The description on this one gives it away:

http://www.zango.com/destination/cat...aspx?pid=28305

"E-mail [email protected] with your name and e-mail address and I'll contact you when the full length movie Boy Who Never Slept is released online for FREE. That's right the entire 1.5 hr movie will be released in DVD resolution online for FREE."

google that e-mail address and you'll find that vid on yahoo, and tons of other sites..

no pops.. just don't click "Watch".. and sure enough, the checkbox is pre-checked..

MaddCaz 11-19-2006 07:11 PM

Install zango and tell me how many of these get a porn popup from zango.
I would be interested in seeing that result.

How old were you when the Internet became a household item?

If that isn't a chop, that is bullshit. However, it would be interesting to know if that was bought by AFF or an affiliate.

L-Pink 11-19-2006 08:16 PM

The over 18 may be the legal age to sign the license agreement.

jacklaidlaw 11-19-2006 08:19 PM

That is no chop check it out for yourself I am 19 nearly 20 now so I had the internet at 10 or sommit like that

King of Queens 11-19-2006 08:34 PM

zango is a real pain in the ass for even little children.

I can just immagine parents telling their kids no computer until we get it fixed after seeing some of these popups

llporter 11-19-2006 08:47 PM

rah roh shaggy

Prairiegrrl 11-19-2006 08:53 PM

BadDog, maybe you should read/install Zango yourself and learn how it works :2 cents:

Dirty Dane 11-19-2006 09:42 PM

That really sucks. The software and those supporting it is fucking up the industry... and its illegal in many countries to target kids.

jacklaidlaw 11-19-2006 09:50 PM

alaska has got the right idea http://blog.ericgoldman.org/archives..._antiadw_1.htm

Also it does not mention in the zango eula about adult sites whatsoever so there is no warning of adult sites at all

they don't care. They get paid everytime their zango page pops up. Whether or not the person has a credit card or is old enough to buy they don't care they get paid. If you removed all the traffic that comes from kids I bet they would take a huge cut in revenue.

The can try to spin it anyway they want but they can't deny the fact that the kids games and shit comes with the search assistant bundled in. The search assistant the part that targets the urls and pops up pages that some adult companies are paying for. If zango cared they wouldn't include a feature that displays porn on content that is aimed at kids.

I've mentioned this in the past and think this would be a great way to get the religious groups who are trying to protect kids from porn to help fight zango. If someone could get this info to them and get them fired up about it, they could do a lot more damage then we could.

Google: warner bros zango
Warner Bros was promoting zango and a lot of people started complaining it was putting porn on their kid's pcs. Warner bros finally dropped zango because of it.

jacklaidlaw 11-19-2006 09:55 PM

if someone could send a complaint to http://www.ftc.gov/ there is a button on their site and send them a link to this thread that would be very helpful (I can't I live in the uk and I don't think it works for me)

Right?

LOL someone sent me an ICQ just the other day that did a suggested keyword search on zango for "xxx" and one of the suggestions came back with something like " free disney xxx "

Do you think all words that we use for adult sites are exclusivly used for adult and none of them also have common uses in mainstream ?

What about "disney webcams" ? the word "teen" how often is that associated with adult sites? I am sure there are a good bit of terms that have porn and non porn uses that kids could be looking for.

He sounds like he is older then you or at least more mature. here he is bringing up very good questions and concerns about something you have stated you know very little about and you have claimed does not affect you but yet you are in here making insults at the person who is actually doing something good.

Are you serious? You realize the internet has been a household item for nearly a decade now, right? I used the internet as a minor and I'm 25 now.

We don't need to send the FTC to this board. :1orglaugh

You can definitely complain about Zango to the FTC though. They know what Zango is up to but will surely prioritize their list of scummy companies based on the number of complaints received.
