Would you fax in your ID for hosting approval ?
Would you fax in your ID for hosting approval ?
Even though you paid with your credit card ? |
Yes I would..a few hosting companies do it

Don't need a host to "approve" anything - they, and anyone else who gets paid, just needs to provide the service they get paid for or fuck off. |
Done it once so far my identity is still mine.
I'd only do it for a well known company though, even then I was apprehensive. |
Never,never do it
|
No way - I was asked just a few days ago. I told them where to stick it.
To be fair - if I was after a 100mbs dedicated then yes - if it was a frudulent card they could lose some real money. but for some crappy virtual account - no fucking way. |
Same shit as me mate
A little fucking virtual account to make some tests with blogs and stuff. Also to test the facilities. Now wtf do i do ? I've been online since late 96 I've never sent an ID Purpose of sending my id ? "to proctect myself" huh ????? Well that's exactly WHAT I WANT TO DO "PROTECT MYSELF" Like if a fucking credit card only wasn't dangerous enough to use :helpme |

I'd never consider sending my ID, such a request seems a bit excessive for a hosting company.
|
i've never understood that either and when i inquire re: the fax machine it is usually the fax machine sitting out in the office for anyone to walk by and swipe my info
|
no, never do it unless your signing a contract with someone where they need to verify that your the one signing the contract.
Jim |
Sure...I can fax them a nicely photoshop'd version of any ID. :1orglaugh
|
nope . . . they should have fraud protection set up or move on to a company that does
|
nope. . . .
|
yep i have done
|
Most hosting companies will require you to fax your ID and/or front and back of your credit card when getting a dedicated server.
|
meh.. why bother.. if it's a small account, just go somewhere else...

There's no shortage of hosts and sounds like ya been online longer than most hosts ever existed. |

It depends on the type of hosting. For large scale important hosting, defiantly. Actually, I'd appreciate this security measure. I wouldn't mind faxing it back for verification when asking for the root password to be reset etc.
Most commonly though, I think that a lot of quality domain name registrars are doing this now. I've had to fax in my ID a couple of times to get some passwords. |

I assume WebAir asks for that then? Dont a lot of your clients use Epass? |

Sure, there is nothing wrong with providing all reasonable data to enable hosting, ie.. company name, address, contact, contract blah, but no reason whatsoever to provide personal ID's. |

If there is a "national security" problem - get the fuck out of the US and to a less paranoid country and have "inalienable rights" which are not even discussed. PS Ya sure won't be asked for Photo ID crap to enable hosting in any "normal country". |

Again, it's only for a small virtual account ! Maybe i would understand if it was for a couple of servers or just even one but geeeeeeeee the price for a hole year doesn't even match up the price of a small server for only A MONTH

So i got a little setup fee and the first month paid ?
A 6 packs and big bag of chips wasted ?? Ask for a refund or do a CB which ain't really good for yourself be the way Hi Hitler, big brother is watching you lol... A bit pathetic, i was all cranked up by this new project of mine but now..... Fucking Internet, don't we love it ! I MISS XPICS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! |
oh hell no

fuck no, nobody needs your id.... except gambling sites lol
|
Never.. there are so many hosts out there, just go away and find another.
|
If I was paying by a rescindable payment method, i.e. credit card or open account and the amount was more than chump change, yes. But if I was paying by eGold or ePass or some non-rescindable payment method, who I am is none of their business, its irrelevant to the transaction.
|
Colisse, kosse ch'fais avec stie ?
WTF do i do with it ? All you guys (well almost) think they same as me Funny that no one asked about the host ? |

OK then.. what hosting company assume they have rights to the DNA test results? :) |
Once ID is received, your account can be activated ?????
I think that the WEB sometimes would need fresh AIR |
I do it with everything blocked out except name/pics enough to proof who I am.
