cops are touchy this year at Mardi Gras....
Weve seen a guy get taken to jail for petting a horse.
Weve seen a guy get pulled out of his car, and 5 cops jump on him. In both of these situations, there was no reason for the cops to do what they did. Both guys had their girlfriends with them, who seem to be in shock. Everybody who was watching both situations, constantly asking why are you gusy doing that??? he didnt do anything. It is pretty common to see people pet the horses. I see alot of girls that do it, and the cops dont seem to mind. I had a cop come up behind me and push me. I didnt know it was a cop, he just come up behind me and started shoving me. Well, its not uncommon to get pushed around and bumped by people, walking down bourbon. However, this guy didnt identify himself. All I know is i got someone behind me shoving me. I pushed back with my back turned... and then he gave me a good shove out of the way, nearly knocking me down. Some of the cops down here seem very bitter towards the revelers this year. It may be becuase they have hired extra cops from around the country to come down and police mardi gras this year, and those guys are probably itching to take people to jail. I dont know, but we've seen ALOT of questionable behavior from the police this year. Kiwi said shes been pushed by cops 4 times since shes been here. One of them knocked her down in a pile of bourbon street trash gumbo, and didnt bother helping her up. I had a cop call me an asshole out of the blue. I asked him why he just called me an asshole. He said, "becuase you look like one." Im not saying they are all assholes here... Weve got cops staying all around us in our hotel, and it doesnt smell like cigerettes they are smoking. |

Cops being shady is nothing new - get it on tape and send it to channel 5
|
some people think theres probably more to the stories above... but there isnt.. people are being taken to jail for good reasons, but there seems to be some resentment from cops towards revelers this year.
Not a good way to rebuild the tourist industry down here if you ask me. |
That sounds about right. Have a friend down there who told me some similar stuff. Apparently the cops are bitter, angry, overworked, and really have no one to overlook what they do. I remember that tape that was out months ago where they beat the crap out of some guy.
It's sad because they can use all the help they can get in terms of tourist dollars. However, with cops like that and a dumbshit mayor, the city is going to just get worse. |
Damn shame if out of town cops are fucking up the atmosphere there.
|
Law enforcment animals are held in the same reguard as regular officers...you wouldn't go up to a police officier and pet them would you?

I had my tape rolling while I was being harrassed, but all you hear is the sound, becuase i was filming with my back turned to him. |

They are. Thats why the guy got booked for assualting a police officer. People were asking what charges they had against the guy, and thats the answer they were given. There are cops on horses right outside my window... about half the people that walk by, stop to pet the horses. The cops do not mind at all, and never have. The cop had a chip on his shoulder, and wanted to fuck up someones night. He could, so he did. |
That assult charge will be thrown out and a formal complaint against the officer may be filed. Basically nothing will happen though.

it appears the police hired their own videographer...all beatings will be privately hosted this year...or until guba gets their paws on the film |

Yes, we are seeing the same thing. Some of them seem extremely bitter, and g seeing the fact that people are being hauled off to jail for ridiculous reasons, it doess seem to have put a chill on the amount of fun being had here. Theres alot of happy people here, but theres also alot of people complaining the cops seem to looking for trouble where there isnt any. |

Being from here you can tell who is from here and who is not and there are A LOT of non local cops and they are pushy, the situation is unreal and I could not imagine being from somewhere else and coming here for the first time and being told "Keep the peace, uphold the law". A scared officer is a dangerous officer.
Thanks for coming down though, I moved out of the city a long time ago but I am sure they can use the money to rebuild. Remember, Mardi Gras has always been a zero tollerance time, no questiones asked, everyone involved gets loaded into the patty wagon and you go to Foti or Lee's house (sherrifs of orleans and jefferson parish) People come down here and have no respect for the city, the people here, the law or themselves once they get some hand grenades in them, party responsibly and try to keep a low profile. |
heh cops and horses and crowds are always a recipe for disaster..
Here my mardi gras experience.. ( mind you i was fairly lit so my view is a tad tainted but ) From what i remember the crowds were packed some horses came by , it was crowded so they sort of milled out for a bit and a few girls petted the horses and some guys patted the horses rowdily and the cop didnt seem to mind , then another cop came up and said DONT TOUCH THE HORSES then the crowd sort of got tight around the horse and me and a few people were basically right beside the horse and had no choice but to kind of lean against the horse as the vrowd kind of surged one way , and this cop went apeshit , dove off his horse and tackled me to the ground punching me in the face, once one cop hops on you they all hop on you , next thing you know we are all arrested on assault charges ( but they dropped the charges and let us go at the station ) I have been around enough riot cops on horses to know not to touch the horses, girls usually get away with it , but guys tend to get rowdy and want to slap the horses |
The way I look at it is that if I am in a crowd that big, and I stand out enough to even be noticed, I must be doing something wrong.
|
they don't call them pig for nothing. sorry for your situations!!!

It's time to clean up New Orleans, didn't you know?
No more blacks. No more wild Mardi Gras. |

what your describing is very different from what we witnessed. Girl comes up with her boyfriend,..... "oooohhhh horsey", guy starts to pet the horse about 5 minutes after some girls just came up and pet the same horse. Cop yells out to some other cops... and points to the guy. They come and grab him, and his girlfriend is like, whats going on? crying... "they told her to shutup, or she's going on the bus too" she stood there on the cellphone crying her eyes out to someone, until we left. |

I got pushed once.... I didnt get taken to jail. I got pushed for being at the wrong place, at the wrong time, standing in a crowd of people, where they thought there might have been a girl in the middle flashing her tits. Kiwi got pushed a few times... i guess she was doing something wrong too huh? |
cops have a great talent for annoying us.. and listening to your stories, these cops are getting to my nerves!
|
Why anyone would want to party with tens of thousands of drunks throwing beads at each other on trash filled streets, and knowing the "take no shit" rep that the NOPD has is beyond me.
Placing yourself in that wild 'n crazy environment is just asking for trouble even if you aren't a troublemaker yourself. |

nobody knew what to expect before getting here. Theres a risk with everything you do. To say either one of us were asking to get pushed around, or the guys in the situations i discussed, were asking for to be hauled of to jail, and get charged with a serious crime, such as assualting a police officer, when all he did was pet a horse, is just talking crazy. The same thing can be said for anybody working porn. You put yourself in the possible crossfire of someone looking to fuck up your day. So the next time someone gets hauled off to jail, you can say they were asking for it. |
This thread is worthless without pics so.......

I am sure its not that bad : )

I looked at some of the cam feeds from nola.com, and honestly, the "crowds" this year look fairly light, more like mardigras daytime than night time.
I am not really sure that Mardi Gras was really a great idea this year. Tempers are short, there is still a ton of real work that needs doing, and there is a huge shortage of both hotel rooms and workers for the bars, restaurants, and hotels. Everyone is on a hair trigger, and I think this is actually going to do NO harm rather than good... We;ll see... hopefully NO will return to normal one day. Alex |
anyone who can be mean to Kiwi girl has a problem!

I can say one thing though, I remember when they tried Mardi Gras outside of the south and there were major riots and you never really hear of anything that crazy here, hate it or not, the policies keep general control. Hope everyone makes it home safe who is down here. |
I think that there was a tourist arrested in Ybor City/Tampa FL last year for petting a horse.
Does the punishment fit the crime? |
