Hey Are There Any Snowmobilers Here At GFY?

I am trying to decide between 2 sleds and I am having one hell of a hard time deciding.

I'm trying to decide between the Polaris 600 H.O Fusion

http://www.edgeperformancecentre.com...e_segimage.jpg

and the Polaris 900 H.O. Fusion

http://www.go-polaris.com/ggpowerspo...sion_03_lg.jpg

I haven't really looked at many other sleds because I am a big fan of Polaris sleds. The price is not the much between the 2 (maybe a couple of grand)... I like a sled to thrash around on jumps and something light that is making me kind of lean towards the 600, plus the 600 has been getting some incredible reviews... However the 900 is balls to the wall power but it seems to have had some mechanical service issues and the one I road earlier this year (rental) broke down on me in the middle of a frozen lake LOL!

Anyways expert GFY snowmobilers please give me some advice here, I would sincerely appreciate it :)

I don't own one but I have tried riding my friend's snowmobile. It was scary and fun at the same time.

sonofsam 12-15-2005 05:27 PM

i don't even need to be a snowmobiler, but judging by what you just said.. i think the choice is obvious.. go with the 600...

but then again, you asked for expert opinions... so i'll stfu :1orglaugh

I can vouch for the 600's maneuvering capabilities on various terrain.

Well you don't look like an heavy guy so the 600 will do ... depends what kind of rides you like. I'd personally go for the bigger model

My family got a new polaris from last year and a old yellow Ski Doo one ;0

hehe cool, I have an old Mach 1 that I have been using for years. I am going to buy a new one for me to ride on and when I have friends over they can use the old mach 1.

Ive driven both as well. The 600 is great for ditch banging and can handle like a champ. The 900 is great for raw power and can still handle great.

Where are you going to ride the most. Open lakes (900) or tight trails (600)?

I am more of a ditch banger myself so my 1000 (T-Cat) sits a lot while I ride my F7. I prefer the lighter sleds.

The best way to solve your problem is to get both :)

Yeah more tight trails around here, my wife won't let me go on open lakes LOL! She said you can get whatever you want but NO LAKES!! hehe!

I think I am just going to order the 600 tomorrow and get it over with. Everything is making me lean towards it plus it has a 3 year extended warranty.

Marshal 12-16-2005 01:21 AM

wow, those snomobiles are amazing! :)

Semi-Retired-Dave 12-16-2005 01:58 AM

900 for sure. You won't out grow it so quickly. I have been racing motocross forever, never got to try a snowmobile. Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait for it to Snow in California.

reed_4 12-16-2005 02:52 AM

im not a snowmobiler but i like that amazing pic man. thanks

adultchica 12-16-2005 02:54 AM

Yep not enough snow here in Texas to constitute investing in a snowmobile
but I've been on one before when I spent christmas in minnesota a few years back
with some family. Talk about a good time!

There are some snowballers here at GFY.

ravo 12-16-2005 06:49 AM

Go for the 600. Considering the trails around your area (tight, narrow trails, with no lake running), you'd never be able to use the power the 900 has. Plus, the 600 will handle much better.

Now, if you were in Northern Ontario, I'd go for the 900; lots of open sweeping trails with lots of lakes; *then* the 900 would be a blast.

I prefer small light sleds; it's great to out-ride bigger sleds on the trails. I had an MXZ 440 that was untouchable. Now riding a Ski-doo Legend 600; more power, but doesn't quite handle like the 440.

gaarrrr tocold

Phoenix 12-16-2005 07:38 AM

get the 600 or you will be dead after this winter

you dont need a top of the line snowmobile...the 600 is probably easier to drive

kaktuz 12-16-2005 07:44 AM

how much one of those babies worth +-? $$?

atom 12-16-2005 07:59 AM

Unless you are gonna be going balls to the walls across fields etc I would take the 600 over the 900 anyday. I prefer a modded 440 over anything else for really twisty trail riding. Buddies will blow me away on the straight aways but nobody can keep up on the trails.

BTW - get an artic cat :-)

Rebel D 12-16-2005 08:06 AM

I am A fan of Arctic cats myself. Make sure if you go with the 900 there are companies that will insure it. No use having a beefy sled that can;t be insured

Manowar 12-16-2005 08:10 AM

i'd say 600

I have been riding sleds for years, I'm pretty comfortable with my sledding abilities. A 900 sounds big but there are much beefier sleds than that out there ;)

Yeah I agree with you Ravo, all the trails here are thru farmers fields with twistys. There are very few times you would ever be able to completely let out the 900. Plus I love finding areas with drifts that you can jump, so a 600 would be much more suited to that style of riding.

Dave I subscribe to your line of thinking as well, I always say get the one you want because if you don't you will regret it later. However you should see these things, the 600's are high output and crank out alot of power with a small displacement. They are just like those speedy 600 sportbikes, sure the 1000's can kickass in a straightline but a 600 is a blast in the twistys and is much lighter.
