The animals down there need help too!

Everyone here knows I am a HUGE animal lover. Well there are a lot animals down there stuck and hurt too. It just makes my heart ache to think of some puppy or kitten stuck on a roof hungry with no shade scared and alone. :sadcrying

So all you animals lovers out there who would love to help, please donate to Noahs Wish Its run by a great gal named Terry Crisp and their sole mission is to go to disaster areas to rescue all the lost, abandoned, homeless, and injured dogs, cats and other critters too.

$5, $10, $20 bucks it all adds up!

They are on scene in New Orleans and the other areas where there is flooding trying to save animals stuck in the water and on rooftops.

They need lots of help as this is their biggest animal rescue endeavor ever, and these animals won't shoot at you.

No thank you! I wish I could go down there myself and help get the animals. Poor little guys had no idea what was about to happen and now to be down there stuck with nothing and no understanding of why just makes my heart ache. :(

They are both excellent organizations.

I'm assuming they'll rescue any people they find along the way....

I wonder if that will even dent the thoughts of the US people / the government on changing gun-ownership policy; maybe a wakeup call? People shooting at their own people...

I would not want to be stranded in NO right now without a firearm. Especially with a family to protect. This is a perfect example why we should always have the right to bear arms.

Nope. Good people own guns too and they can help protect and restore order as well. I know my house would be safe, or I should say roof top. :Graucho

There is nothing wrong with our current gun regulations. Some of the guns being used there were stolen by looters. Do you really think that will impact anything?

What we should do is enforce the gun laws we already have instead of making new ones.

Your idea would be like changing the 2257 laws without even attempting to enforce the current ones.

How fucking stupid would that be?

Er.....Oh wait.........

Nysus 09-01-2005 12:15 PM

Loyrn - Bigger than huge kudos to you for bringing this to everyone's attention; thank you.

I would give $1,000 but my cashflow and reserves are currently being used. :(

I know $100 isn't enough though.

They do have a list of items they need though;

On-going needs:

- batteries (AA, AAA, C, and D)
- binders (black - 3 inch with clear plastic sleeve on front)
- bolt cutters
- cable ties (assorted sizes)
- cat collars (break away style)
- clamps (extra large size)
- clip boards
- CD-R's (rewriteable)
- collapsible wire cages (extra large size)
- dog leashes and collars (news ones only in all sizes)
- duct tape
- ear plugs (disposable)
- extension cords (heavy duty outdoor approved - 100 foot long)
- first aid kits for animals and people
- grooming clippers (electric)
- hand held radios (at least a 2 mile radius)
- hand sanitizer gel
- heating pads
- labels (1" x 2-5/8" - white)
- labels (2" x 4" - white)
- misting systems (portable)
- muzzles (assorted sizes)
- Polaroid 600 camera and film
- Post-It-Notes (3" squares)
- printer cartridges (Hewlett Packard numbers 56 and 57)
- Sharpie pens (black and red - fine and wide point)
- shipping labels tags (card stock - wire twist on one end - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8")
- spot lights that plug into automobile cigarette lighters
- staples (heavy duty - for tacking up flyers)
- staplers (heavy duty - for tacking up flyers)
- surgical gloves (disposable)
- tarps (assorted sizes)
- weather alert radios (portable - hand held)
- Zip Lock bags (extra large size)

If I had time, I would contact companies who are large suppliers or manufacturers and ask for products to be donated; eg: Glad Zip Lock bags, printer catridges from Hewlett Package (#56 and #57), etc..

Perhaps someone can write a general letter that can be faxed to these companies to ask for their support? Of course providing the list of items they need on an on-going basis would be good to include, and also mention that you believe they could be the best provider for certain items for donations; it's a write-off for them as well, but also just a good and right thing to do.

Thanks again Loyrn. I will do what I can. If anyone wants to help out or wants to contact me, my ICQ is 129060301.

Matt

Thanks so much for posting this! I was thinking the same thing! I saw a family lifting their dog through the rising water and it broke my heart! Thanks again good info :thumbsup

Thank you so much, Nysus.

I think that is a great idea. For those of you who can't afford to donate go down to your local Petsmart or animal store and ask the manager if they could donate any of the supplies on the list and then mail the items to them. :thumbsup

Every little bit helps! :)

LittleSassy 09-01-2005 12:29 PM

this is indeed a tragic thing happened at NO. save the animals!

Shoehorn! 09-01-2005 12:29 PM

Ok, this is just a question, I am not saying don't donate or whatever, so no one freak out.

But, what are they going to do with the animals once they are rescued? Won't they end up in a Humane Society place for a period of time before they are euthanized?

RRRED 09-01-2005 12:31 PM

Excellent Loryn!!! I was looking at my two kitties this morning thinking how horried it would be to be in that situation of losing them and not knowing what ever happened to them. And the magnitude of what happened there has hot to be hundreds or thousands of pets who made it didn't make it. They definately need help to take care of the ones who did.

I will put that link in sig for sure!!

**and side note, Loryn, I have to bail right now for a couple hours but I'll be back though and for the rest of the night... so can you cover my back?

Love you girl!

I was going to post about this too but I need to look into the realistic cost of transportation... but I already decided this morning that if I can, I will adopt a dog from there. Our household has been discussing, researching breeds, and looking for a dog for months now. We're just taking it slow because it's like adopting another kid. But If I can cover it, they can defianately count me in!

The Noah's Wish team reached Slidell, Louisiana. They have met with emergency management and animal control. They are beginning to provide assistance for animals in this devastated area. Almost everyone they have talked with had a story to tell of an animal. Unfortunately, many of the stories were of animals that were left behind when people had to evacuate. People are getting desperate to find their animals.

You can find out more if you read the site! :thumbsup

Er.....Oh wait.........

You have the public with AK-47s, giving them the ability to shoot at aid helicopters; in Canada, we don't have that, so it wouldn't be a concern.

You're being ignorant and naive like most gun owners in the US; the ones who are "right to bare arms" kinds. The problem is there is no way to control who has the guns, and therefore to protect society, you simply not allow any of those kinds of weapons in the public; there still will be those guns owned by gangs / whomever, but then you go after them and take them from them.

I'm done this discussion though, I'd rather work and see what I can do to get more help for Noah's Wish organization than argue.

Matt

Better than leaving them to suffer and die as is. This way they will have a chance of being re-united with their families that had to flee at the last minute or evacuate or at some point or being adopted by new ones. Especially the pets with ID tags, chips, tats, etc etc.

Sad to say that realisticly some will have to be put to sleep, but that is better than letting them die from drinking the water or starvation, etc etc..
