I don't think anyone doubted that you made a donation. :)

I've already made adjustments myself to the letter.

Can anyone help me categorize the items needed, and then help with creating a list of companies [large retail stores (contacting their headquarters), and manufacturers]?

Matt

A friend just told me that the Coastguard has rescued 23 dogs by helicopter so far; hopefully and I believe they are, working with Noah's Wish to care for the animals.

Just thought I'd throw out some happy news.

Newest revision of my fax letter:

Can your company either being a wholesale supplier, retail store or chain, or a manufacturer donate any amount of the items below? They are greatly needed for

Please forward this fax to whomever the decision maker(s) is/are; thank you.

What is Noah's Wish?

"Noah's Wish is a not-for-profit, animal welfare organization, with a straightforward mission. We exist to keep animals alive during disasters."

Please visit their website if you're concerned of their credibility; this is not a scam. Their website is very indepth and detailed of what they do, and have been doing for the past 3+ years; 3 years officially as Noah's Wish.

You will also see pictures throughout their site of the current aftermath of the conditions the animals have been left behind / abandoned by their owners / or lost; just a warning, it's heartbreaking. The coastguard has so far rescued 23 dogs and from my understanding it is Noah's Wish that are caring for them until they hopefully can be re-united with their families.

I hope as many people possible can read this and could even be forwarded to others to help.

Time is of the essence.

Thank you for your time. If you have any questions you can direct them to any of the contacts for Noah's Wish, otherwise I will leave my email below.

Thank you,

Matt M

Any suggestions?

The store I can think of would be:
Petsmart
Petco
Walmart
Target
Kmart
Safeway

Basically any place that sells pet supplies and other house hold items they would need.

I am going to my local stores and seeing what they will do. Face to face it is hard to say no. So is cleavage to face! :winkwink:

"cleavage to face" LOL - Thanks for the laugh. You are right though, face-to-face is much more effective, one reason is it is / seems more legitimate.

"Petsmart
Petco
Walmart
Target
Kmart
Safeway"

That's one issue / possible problem I was thinking mostly, is that not all big chains are in Canada and the US.

There's another place which is like a big box store for pet supplies here in Canada that likely aren't in the US; but for location and distribution purposes (cost of distribution) would only contacting US companies be a better idea? At least the first companies perhaps?

1 Petsmart
2 Petco
3 Walmart
4 Target
5 Kmart
6 Safeway

We have 6 so far... who can add to the list? :)

yes you can help whomever you want.

my post wasnt meant to flame you lauren, it comes from my experience with hurricane andrew in miami 92 - if i had mentioned that you maybe you wouldnt have been so quick to tell me to fuck off. then again maybe you wouldve.

and i do understand your wanting to help animals, its commendable, i love them too

but the focus should be on the rescue of people right now.

To be perfectly honest, I would help out an animal before I would help a person. As a general rule, people suck. You are a perfect example of the kind of person that makes me place animals before people.

How many dogs have shot at people trying to rescue them? How many cats have you seen looting new Nikes and cartons of cigarettes?

I was in Florida during Andrew. I was born and raised in Sarasota. We drove down to Stead after the hurricane thinking we were going to see cool shit, we were young and dumb. When we got there we all were crying and couldn't believe the shit we saw. Changed my life right there.

I have no hard feeling towards you, just want you said. We are a people of many talents and are capable of doing more than one thing at a time. Next subject we may high five and agree. :thumbsup

BV 09-01-2005 05:03 PM

the correct answer is to help both

You think it's right to let the animals die jonesy? that's just stupid

Wegcash has put together an official website for our community to help the HUMAN BEINGS in need. You can find it at http://www.webmasters4america.com

The focus has been put towards the rescue and help of people.... Loryn has provided another form of support and we should all just give her a nod of approval or keep our traps shut.

i never disagreed with you nor do i have hard feelings either loryn and i do high five you for your efforts and concern - we just have a different priority and that doesnt mean i dont care about what happens to animals either as i stated in the other posts.

i made that post after watching people begging for help on television, seeing desperate mothers with their babies and children, the old and infermed, families and the dead at that convention center and the rest of the city.

what bothers me the most is that GOVERMENT helicopters have been flying overhead for 4 days and none of them couldve been loaded with water/supplies and dropped to those in need? --- our gov got stuff over to the tsunami victims quicker and theyre on the other side of the world ....

MikeVega 09-01-2005 09:10 PM

I care a lot about the animals also ... but i kinda see jonesy's point ... I also say fuck the guys shooting and fuck the guys stealing unneeded items ..but there are tons of little kids that have no food or water and need help ... if your going to donate please make sure to help both causes ... :2 cents:

The civilian rescue operations aren't suffering because of lack of money, it's pure logistics at this point. Giving money for the animal rescues CAN make a difference, there isn't any hope for the animals if we don't do something RIGHT NOW.

If you really want to help the humans, donate blood as soon as you can.

Animals had nothing to begin with what did they lose? Animals are in much less need of help than the PEOPLE right now. If anyone goes down there and rescues an animal instead of a person they should be shot in the head.

Blessing to everyone who has helped this great organization.

Detoxed, domestic pets are as important to people to many of us. They are just as deserving to be saved.

Just wanted to let everyone know also, I got this from the HSUS - Humae Society of the United States just now.

The HSUS's National Disaster Animal Response Teams (DART) in Jackson, Mississippi, and Texas are ready to move into the worst-hit regions to respond to the hundreds of pleas for help from pet owners affected by Hurricane Katrina.

More than 30 experienced HSUS rescue staff and volunteers trained in animal rescue are coordinating with state officials, federal agencies, and other organizations to start evacuating animals out of the most-affected areas. They'll also begin establishing pet-friendly shelters and delivering supplies, resources, and medical assistance.

The Louisiana SPCA evacuated all the animals from its shelter over the weekend according to its disaster response plan, which had been developed over the course of several tropical storms and hurricanes in past years. The shelter houses animals on the now-flooded Japonica Street in New Orleans.

Working with the Houston SPCA, rescuers saved an estimated 300 animals from the nightmarish conditions in post-hurricane New Orleans.

Reports about the toll to wildlife, captive wildlife, farm animals, and pets lost to the ravages of Katrina have been slow in coming. Six dolphins from a Gulfport aquarium, Marine Life Oceanarium, were first evacuated to hotel swimming pools and then later moved to facilities in Florida. The HSUS is investigating the deaths of at least three sea lions from the same facility who were featured on CNN and other news channels both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hurricane Katrina is one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. Its effects will be felt for many months after the flood waters finally recede. The HSUS is committed to bringing relief to victims of this terrible tragedy. Our DARTs will be on the ground in the hardest-hit areas for as long as needed. Our thoughts are with those who are suffering and waiting for rescue.

Thank you again everyone for caring as much as I do for the dogs and cats and other animals suffering from this tragedy. You are all special souls!!

:thumbsup

DUDE, OPEN YOUR MIND! Do you honestly think a person down there floating around helping animals would pass up a person who needs help? FUCK NO. Everyone is down there to help everyone. I am sure the people who are helping other people down there help any animal they come across. It?s a team effort to help ALL life and in all situations.

What the fuck is with this shit? I can't believe how many people think there should be only one effort and do not have the capability of seeing how all efforts can come together to restore order from every direction. We can do more than one thing at a time. There is not only one way and one way only. It's just stupid ignorant to believe so. The more volunteer people/groups going down there, for whatever their cause or reason, the more aid, supplies and help they bring to the whole area. These are heart loving people not closed minded assholes.

And believe it or not animals help people out so much in many more ways than one. For instance think about a family who is safe now and has lost everything including their pet, who they consider part of their family. Now imagine the joy it would bring to them to have someone walk up to them and say here we found Sparky or Fluffy, as we were out trying to save and help anyone anything we came across. They have nothing to be happy about and that would give them a little bit of sunshine.

Spreading joy in someone's heart and life in a situation like this does wonders for the all the people around them. I believe that is in the Buddhist teachings. The joy you give one person will spread joy to another person and then that person to another person and so on and so on. Right now those people need any type of positive feeling and hope they can get. The more people down there helping anything and everything, the more it will spread motivation and hope to all the people they come across to join the effort.

So if you think I should be shot for sending money to help more people get down there, for whatever the reason, then you are a close minded clueless person.

I love animals and do not want to see them suffer either!

reynold 09-02-2005 02:31 AM

Everybody needs help including those animals.
