In my opinion the best is the new era of worldwide communication

The best invention is genetically engineered food.

We could only feed about 4 billion people without it (The world population is 6 billion). I can't think of any other invention that has saved 2 billion people.

Printing Press would probably be up there. Without it we would have alot more illiterate people on this planet.
