hydro 04-10-2005 05:19 PM

my sister did some hypnosis stuff, it worked out pretty good for her

nico-t 04-10-2005 05:21 PM

smoke!! NOW! SMOKE!!!!!

SuperGuy 04-10-2005 05:21 PM

I managed to beat it with nicotine gum - I smoked for 20 years, and have now been smoke free for a little over a year. The first couple of weeks are the toughest, and I found that being able to grab a piece of nicotine gum whenever I wanted one helped a hell of a lot.

Good luck with your quit smoking quest :) Don't get disappointed if you sneak the occasional smoke, just keep up the mantra "today I am not gonna smoke!"

AndrewKanuck 04-10-2005 05:22 PM

drink milk whenever you get a craving - it's how I quit

Carrots.
Grapes.
Walnuts

i stocked up on a ton of friut cuz i heard that smokers that stop, gain weight really fast. so i took out all the crap food out of my house (the boyfriend is PISSED lmao), and stocked up on watermelon, grapes, baby carrots, canolope, fat free pretzels, and of course, the gum.

i think im going to buy a few lollipops too (to kick my oral-fixation habit).

you might not have to actually see somebody in person for it to be effective. My brother also used to smoke and just bought a cd and for a while i didnt see him smoking but he picked up on it again since almost all his friends and his wife smoke

Spunky 04-10-2005 05:32 PM

You'll be back..they always try :pimp

I successfully stopped for the past several years. The one thing I suggest is to use the patch or whatever slow released nicotine plan is out there these days. To try to quit cold turkey without the patch...is crazy and too much of a struggle to succeed. Get the patch and ease out of the addiction.

Basic_man 04-10-2005 05:53 PM

Congrats, and I wish you big luck !!

pornguy 04-10-2005 05:56 PM

Hey Baba hit me on ICQ. I want to speek with you about someone in your area.

selena 04-10-2005 05:59 PM

This August will be 4 years for me. :) I used the nicotine gum for slightly over three months. I don't think I could have done it w/out the gum. I was a heavy smoker who had smoked for many years.

Something that helped me was simply deep breaths and really being aware of the breathing. To feel it inside you. When I'd do that, it would help take my mind off the immediacy of the craving by focusing on something else, and I would realize how much clearer my lungs were than they had been. How much deeper I could breathe.

Which was help in and of itself.

Good luck! :)

beemk 04-10-2005 05:59 PM

i hope thats sugar free gum, unless you want to rot your teeth

I'd probably have to find some new friends if I even tried to quite. My 3 roommates and most of my friends smoke. Kinda hard when you are drinking and/or playing poker 5 nights out of the week.

Best of luck to you though!!

Sosa 04-10-2005 06:09 PM

good luck

i joined a gym about 2 months ago and i go 4 times a week and i was hoping that workin out for 2 hours a day would make me stop, but it didnt. (althouigh i did cut down alot).

i'm not going out of my apartment for 5 days unless its to the gym and back. out of sight, out of mind (until i can get over the 3 day hump)

wargames 04-10-2005 06:21 PM

... you have to be mentaly ready, otherwise you are wasting your time and all you'll get is another failed attempt to quit smoking.

Oh, I just remembered this. :)

http://www.quitnet.com has a cool tool that works as a motivator for me, or did back when I checked it more frequently.

Your Quit Date is: 8/13/2001

Time Smoke-Free: 1336 days, 21 hours, 57 minutes and 23 seconds

Cigarettes NOT smoked: 46792

Lifetime Saved: 11 months, 27 days, 10 hours

Money Saved: $7,598.50

The dollar amount one was the one that always made me smile. ;)

I never did hang out at that site much, because I didn't want to be around posters who were continually posting about not smoking. Made me want a damned cigarette. But there is alot of good info there.
