math puzzle crypto experts $50 paypal

$50 paypal to anyone that can un encrypt this message for me

anyone here know how to solve alpha-numeric wheel puzzles ?

this is the code we used in math club during undergrad...alpha-numeric wheel ("a" through "o", space, "p" through "z", "." then 0-9, and finally ","); same function we always used; code-key from this letter...I hope this is ringing a bell

The message (& code) use letters A-Z, numbers 0-9, commas, periods, and spaces (shown in encrypted form as dashes ). I left out nulls and reverses since you may be a little rusty.

any of you good at solving these kind of puzzles ?

50$ paypal if you email me the correct answer do not post it here

where did you get it from? looks really mysterious to me.

cypocrypt 11-04-2004 12:57 PM

if anyone can figure that one out is prob wiredguy

he deciphered the google job offer a while ago, so it wouldnt surprise me if he does this one as well....

Tanker 11-04-2004 01:08 PM

I got it from a friend its a game we play hit me up on ICQ if you think you can solve it 3427575

Tanker 11-04-2004 01:33 PM

no other cryptology freaks

WiredGuy 11-04-2004 01:46 PM

I think you're missing something here Tanker. You provided the encrypted text, but no indication of the decryption algorithm or the decrypted text. You need one of the two to crack this. You said:

Quote:

alpha-numeric wheel ("a" through "o", space, "p" through "z", "." then 0-9, and finally ","); same function we always used; code-key from this letter
So a..o [SPACE] p..z is the character set in addition to [0-9] and period and comma. But what do they map to? You need a hash table or some way of knowing how to decrypt this to figure out anything? Was there a picture or something else you got included because there's something missing here.

Tanker 11-04-2004 05:40 PM

anyone else geocache ? its a fun game and great way to get into the outdoors

BradM 11-04-2004 05:41 PM

Yeah I used to geocache with my dad

Tanker 11-04-2004 05:44 PM

this one is a tough one

colpanic 11-04-2004 06:05 PM

I think it's just talking about a two wheel.

So, imagine two wheels with the same character set... and when you reach a letter on the first, it maps to the one on the second.

I'm feeling pretty lazy right now, but this would be easy to crack programatically.

Myst 11-04-2004 06:11 PM

whats an alpha numeric wheel?

That's what I thought, this is basically a hash map/table but there's 39 characters in total, so unless something maps to itself, there's one character missing here.

Ever watch a Christmas Story?

Remember the decoder ring?

Thats it.

Tanker 11-04-2004 06:25 PM

but the question is can you break the code I have looked and looked at it I dont get it

Tanker 11-04-2004 06:25 PM

I understand the decoder ring but you have to use the story they created to figure out what the decoder ring is

MrIzzz 11-04-2004 06:28 PM

i can't believe you N00bs havent figured this one out yet

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

oh its so damn easy

colpanic 11-04-2004 06:28 PM

Working on it. I'm bored now anyway ;)

colpanic 11-04-2004 06:29 PM

Woah.. it says

"Drink, more ovaltine"

(kidding, still working on it).

Tanker 11-04-2004 06:34 PM

I am glad a few of you understand how to decrypt it

erehwon 11-04-2004 06:47 PM

Its where the Soviet nuclear suitcases are being stashed!

I have a idea of what it is but you have to figure out from the story what is what and I cant

colpanic 11-04-2004 06:58 PM

There are -'s in the text, and those aren't on the wheel.... I'm just taking them out.

NetRodent 11-04-2004 06:59 PM

It does not appear to be simple character rotation using the obvious key. I'm guessing the key has something to do with certain "discrepancies" in the message.

The wheel might also rotate with each character. Might try that next.

Ok, I have some of the usual suspects in Chicago working on it now, if there was more $$$ at stake, I'd nudge a friend that formerly worked in and around the 20755 zipcode. :thumbsup

You are right. It's not a simple rotation.. I wrote a program to try all the combinations & nothing english looking.

Ok, I'm going home.. this is fun, but not *that* fun ;) Good luck. Someone post the solution when you get it!

hahaha, i just got done doing the exact same thing

Tanker 11-04-2004 07:44 PM

I tell you all what the prize in the cache is $100 bucks I will give it all to the person that helps me solve this one if you figure it out and I can get to the cache I will give you the whole hundred dollars its not much but its a game that I play it will involve me hiking about 10 miles into the brush to find it I dont mind I do it for the fun of the hunt

Me and Ellisa are ready to go find it but we have to solve the riddle to know where to look part of the answer will be a longitude and latitude coordinate I believe

like the one at the top of the page on the site I linked

Help me hunt it down and if you are in toronto or upstate NY your more then welcome to come along for the hike although most webmasters are not into that much excercise

Yeah me too ;)

Anyway for those having trouble with the dashes. Reread the initial message. The dashes should be replaced with space in the encrypted message.

Do we know if it's in english? Bruteforce is gonna be hell otherwise...
