US Military Deployments In 130 Countries - What's Wrong With This Picture?

Isn't it time we adjust the troop deployments in countries that were figured based on threats dating 50 years ago?

These current numbers are a tremendous waste of resources when our guys are getting overwhelmed in Iraq.

The US currently has its military forces deployed in 130 countries around the world.

75,000 US Troops Are In Germany. Why?

41,000 US Troops Are In Japan. Why?

41,000 US Troops Are In South Korea. (OK we need some here, but come on 41,000???)

17,000 On Ships Near South Korea. (OK we need some here also, but 17,000???)

13,000 US Troops Are In Italy. Why?

12,000 US Troops Are In The UK. Why?

You might think we're still worried about the Soviet Union and China doing nation building.

Another interesting stat. Only 300,000 of the US Military's 1.4 million active duty personnel are trained for war zone combat operations.

The current cost of our military is $1.1 Billion per Day.

Time to change the allocations and leadership of the US Military. Its plagued with mismanagement and waste.

Your thoughts?

so that you can drive your SUV around without paying for gas with your life in the next 50 years

Digipimp 05-02-2004 04:50 PM

thanks mr rumsfeld. don't worry alot of those troops will be shifting to rotations in iraq when we setup our new bases there.

herbal logic 05-02-2004 04:52 PM

over stretched.... and its going to come back and get us it where it hurts.

can we fight 3 wars simultaneously? I think not

China is one of our biggest trading partners. The last thing China is going to do is fuck with its biggest customer and the last thing we're going to do is fuck with one of our biggest supplier of slave labor manufactured goods.

Yeah all these people have no clue, it's little known or talked about but King George has eased things with China even more than Clinton did and that's saying a lot.

Well it's not Sudan, Russia nor Germany, Spain or Latvia who's starting the wars.

Must be the will to waste billions of money on keep pissing people off and from that, paranoia.

JOKER 05-02-2004 04:59 PM

You forgot a couple thousand in FORT BONDSTEEL,Kosovo...

The land has been paid for 99 years btw. :winkwink:

You want to know why?

Simple,cause it's cheaper.

Been to Kosovo myself for 6 months and have grown up in Heidelberg,Germany... I've seen how many there are :)

There is no point other than $$ for having so many troops stationed outside the US.

Take care,

JOKER

A few facts about Fort Bondsteel:

Quote:

Construction of Fort Bondsteel begin in the summer of 1999.
?The United States immediately - and without any permission from anybody -
seized a large area of Gnjilane county to built largest army base in the Balkans.?
(Diane Johnstone)
It covers between 775 and 800 acres.
It includes a Burger King, two chapels, a library, fitness club, volleyball court, hospital,
movie theatre, as well as SEA Hut accommodation for troops, drywalled barracks
with electric wiring and air conditioning.
It has an ammunition site and a helicopter pad capable of serving Apache (offensive)
helicopters (up to 55 helicopters)
It is large enough to accommodate an aircraft runway.
The cost of the initial phase was $32 million. At a later point in construction the
cost had risen to $36.6 million. It is not known at this time what the final cost will
be.
Various commentaries that it ?could last a generation,? ?will last for many years to
come,? ?The United States is taking advantage of this opportunity to build a base
spacious enough to provide future needs,? ?We just don?t know how long we will
be here,? (this latter is by Shawn Sullivan, political advisor to General Craig Peterson,
the camp?s commanding officer).

Since I find this totally amazing, since I've seen it myself, here a pic that might give you an idea:

That is amazing. I've never seen that release in the US media before. Classic example of what I posted about.

Maybe they're worried the ghost of Adolph Hilter will return.

75,000 troops in Germany is so ridiculous its beyond ridiculous.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

zzgundamnzz 05-02-2004 05:31 PM

Theres a reason for them being all over the world.

1. Nuclear weapon - Don't want all of our troops getting wasted by just one.

2. Presence/Swift Deployment - To be able to go anywhere and everywhere at a moments notice. Lets say theres trouble in a far off region... can we really wait over a week to transfer all the troops and vehicles all the way from the US to that region? :2 cents: :2 cents:

The military doesn't worry about making sense, or spending 1.1 billion dollars a day. :)

I agree 75,000 troops in Germany seems.. foolish at this point. I guess its a regional thing?

erehwon 05-02-2004 06:12 PM

12,000 US Troops Are In The UK.

You can chalk a number for the 550+ acre Menwith Hill listening post.

Strategic areas.

We have to be able to react quickly to anything that goes wrong on earth because it is apparently our job to fix everything. Besides, who is going to mess with us when we have a base in their backyard?

75k in Germany?

Menwith is one of the NSA "Echelon" hubs.

If people only knew what they're scooping up over there they'd be in complete disbelief.

I thought all levels of government were plagued with mismanagement and waste?

It's all about buying $400 staplers from your buddies, getting your cayman island kickbacks, and putting the burden of paying back those fraudulent transactions on the the next few generations of poor people.

I really don't know much about world economics... but i was talking to a friend of mine the other day and she was talking about how people in China are getting rich (by their standards? by our standards?) from all the dealins they do with us and the rest of the world.

She also said that they have been buying up all the worlds steel for years.... saying its to build cars or something.

China is a scary bitch.

Indeed, one of the reasons why in the recent NSA employment drive they're putting a great deal of emphasis on "Arab & Chinese linguists".
