I'm thinking of getting the new Macbook Air - are there any happy owners here?

I'm thinking of getting the new Macbook Air as a x-mas gift for myself.

Mainly to surf the web and use M$ Office.

Are there any owners here? What are your thoughts about it??

I've NEVER used a Mac btw... Will it take long for me to get used to it??

I have a question for you: why do you want to pay a 30-40% premium for year old technology?

I got a nice Mac Book Pro against my better judgment. If I wasn't running Windows on it, I'd use it for a door stop.

However, it runs Windows smooth as butter.

got the upgraded 13 inch mba. first os x machine i've had, i love it.
its replaced my windows laptop. the screen is just about ok for code editing too

itll take a few days to get used to the keyboard shortcuts and installing various apps (quicksilver is so good. i keep doing the keyboard shortcut for quicksilver on my desktop)

pita to get any games on it though. only a few on steam, and no cd drive (though you can share a desktop drive i think)

You'll love it. I've been a PC Guy since the 80's and started buying macs in 2009 (Macbook and iMacs) and I love them all. FAST, CHEAP, ELEGANT to name a few. I get 5 hours of real-world use out of my Macbook too. The best purchases I've ever made. I'm planning to replace all of the PC's at our office and studios in the next 6 months

I bought one for my girl as a gift. It's been in the shop twice in the last 4 months and just broke down again. She's been bitching all morning because she doesn't want to take it to the Apple store on black Friday.

Meanwhile...My Macbook Pro is running strong.

I would buy another Mac in a heartbeat but NOT a Macbook Air.

That's the first time I ever hear someone complaining about problems with the Macbook Air.

But I'll take it into consideration for sure, there are not many Apple Stores down here in Brazil, and I guess it would be a huge pain in the ass if it broke.

Thanks everybody for your input! So far I'm very inclined to buy it. I'll check it personally on the store today, to see if 13 inches is enough for me...

I only heard good things about the new Air. I thought about getting one myself, but went for the kill and got the i5 MBP.

I couldn't be happier! You know we have the most outrageous prices on Apple products in Brazil. But still, was worth every penny. I don't plan on ever touching a PC again.

I will never touch a Mac until Apple lets me install their OS on my PC. Steve Jobs knows that if his operating system was released for Windows, his over-priced hardware sales would drop to nothing.

I prefer a computer that's easily build and modify to one that's easy to use. That's just me, though.

I have a macbook pro. I cracked the screen on a flight. I was like "you know? This thing kind of sucks. Its not that fast, its a pain to get used too, but it is slick looking and intelligent, and i do feel hip when im at starbucks." in the end, i left it cracked, bought an hp with an i7, and never looked back.

Ok, but why? What would be the point?

One thing you can do is install Windows on to a Mac. It works perfectly and is fast too.

Seriously, give it a try. Go to a Mac store in your area and just go play with one of the machines for a while. You'll learn how to use it in minutes as its very windows-like.

I'm mac through and through but I wouldn't buy it....

No backlit keyboard.

And I'll PUT MONEY ON IT that by the next minor update/release in 6 months maybe, it will DEFINITELY have a backlit keyboard.

And...

Being a PC user your whole life, you will HATE the mac for a month... But if you stick with it, you won't wanna touch a dirty, filthy, disgusting windows PC again.

Have you seen the Mac book air commercials where they are tossing the mac books in the air and catching them in their ass in many many ways. Youtube that shit.

I was going to use both...but after I spent a few days with mac OS, I couldn't find a valid reason to install windows there, as I found all the programs I was using for windows for mac, too. And they are even better and easier to use. And don't even get me started on the touchpad...its so intuitive, I stopped using a mouse after 10 years...from one day to another, just like that. And I don't think the touchpad works with windows, well, not all its functions.

Get a macbook pro or imac, you won't regret it... latest generation of air with no backlit keyboard makes it a BAD purchase.
