Living in Barcelona ...

Anybody out there? Just curious what is the money to make a family of 4 ( 2 adult, 2 kids school age ) living there comfortably. I dont mean luxury, but at least 2 bedroom, major basic expenses covered like food, internet, mobile, may be a car.

Any real experience?

What language do you want your kids to be taught in? If its Spanish then you need to add private school fees onto that.

It is a wonderful city, I lived there for 2 years and would live there again if they weren't quite so anal about Catalan.

I'm here at the moment, for a decent apartment in the city expect something between 1000 and 1500. Of course the prices will drop quickly if you move away from the center.

If you have a car you might need to rent a parking spot (about 200 to 300 a month) or you can do the public parking but expect to take a walk that can cost you 10 mins.

Water/electricity is fairly cheap; I'd say around 200 for everything for your whole family.

Internet is ridiculously expensive I pay 70 euro for a 14mbit line lol.

If you have any questions just drop me a msg

Barcelona is the capital and the most populous city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid.

Isn't that kind of normal? I paid about that in Costa Rica for a 2mbit line.

I lived there for over 7 years. As someone posted, if you want your kids speaking Spanish, then you'll be needing private schooling, and in BCN that's not cheap (around 1,000 Euro per month minimum for both). You need to register yourself/family and get an ID number (this is used for getting your phone, internet line etc). I used to live in the old Gothic Quarter, but somewhere like Gracia is pretty cool. I now live in Valencia with my family...if you need any info, drop me a line.
