I lived there for over 7 years. As someone posted, if you want your kids speaking Spanish, then you'll be needing private schooling, and in BCN that's not cheap (around 1,000 Euro per month minimum for both). You need to register yourself/family and get an ID number (this is used for getting your phone, internet line etc). I used to live in the old Gothic Quarter, but somewhere like Gracia is pretty cool.
