Everybody will be buying cheap domains and faking stats... I truly believe the weeding out of "surfers" will only result in more surfmasters and dick-nuggets.
I run a fairly active forum, so I know the headaches Eric faces... daily. But the strategy posted for removing surfers will open up a fucked up can of worms for the "bros" and just plain old bitch ass grumpy old fags... that can will quickly get the lid put back on and stuffed back in the fridge all the way in the back like the rep system was.
It will just make the whole admin thing more complicated as people start complaining that their "call out" threads weren't followed up on quickly enough... and the fags will still complain about the surfers who know how to get cheap domains from godaddy to 'prove' themselves with.
It's a disaster waiting to happen. I am glad you brought this up. So let me clarify one thing.
Just because someone doesn't share the same opinion that you have on things such as Tubes, Piracy, Free Content, etc. This does not make them a Surfer, Pirate, etc.

Yet I totally agree - what has hurt the industry in boards is the onslaught of surfers who post and harass others - bullying. We're here to have fun and to do business - which has become more difficult when you're getting surfers alike who only want to create problems and bully because they feel they can do it here.

Perhaps make it cost $250 to accuse someone of being a surfer. If proven to be a adult webmaster prior to the accusation $100 goes to the wrongly accused and $150 stays with GFY as a fee. The accuser loses the $250. If the person is found to be a surfer after all, then all monies are returned to the accuser and the accused is banned. Just a humble suggestion.

would never work. you couldn't get 100 people to pay that every month, and then when only 100 people are posting those people would stop paying it. He would lose all banner ad and skinning revenue.
If it was a 1 time charge, the trolls would still pay it. While they don't make any money they can still afford to spend $10. So it wouldn't solve much.
how about if you are an asshole 24/7 and don't contribute anything and no one can vouch for who you are (no one) meaning you do business with no one, no designers, programmers, traffic people, affiliate programs, etc... no one can say "hey i know him or did business with him" and you can't prove to eric you in the industry then you get booted. Well knowing Eric as I have for many years - I am sure we can start by simply ignoring new email address's that aren't associated with the adult industry such as hotmail / gmail etc.
Secondly to have a closer look at sig's and those who post without them. Simply put if you don't have one now - there is a strong (not 100%) chance you're not in the industry. Here you can be temporarily held from posting until such time you can prove you're actually working in the industry.
There are a great many ways to verify which I know Eric and his team are creative and thorough to make sure anyone who gets removed will be in fact a surfer.Comment

i'd pay $9.95 one time, but so will trolls, it wouldn't change much. This is 24/7 entertainment for a lot of trolls. $9.95 one time fee is a lot of bang for their buck for the entertainment they get here fucking with people. Monthly fee would weed out the trolls, but you would lose too many real people too. Some people here don't make much money but do have a lot of good stuff to contribute and they not going to shell out $100+ a year just to contribute here, they will go to another board that is free and doesn't have a problem with trolls and surfers.
And in all honesty its the people who post here and contribute and help others are the last ones that ever should have to pay anything. You know what I constantly find amazing about this place?
This board is for the Adult "industry" (and use that word loosely because what it that really is, for the most part, is a select few of very smart individuals and a large group of social misfits riding on their coat tails and high fiving each other over cheap hookers at "conventions".). The Adult industry as we know it only exists in the United States becausse it is protected free speech. So here's the kicker then, a group of people that rely on being able to express themselves even if others are offended, want to run off the people that say things they don't like.
For instance, what has Gideon Gallery actually done to HARM Robbie's business other than to raise our dear little rockstar's blood pressure? Poor Robbie doesn't like what he has to say though, so better get rid of him all together!

Sig doesn't mean shit. I know several MAJOR players in the industry that post here and don't have anything in their sig.
Sadly, a lot of what we do has to be reactionary due to the fact that we want to allow as many people as possible into the board with the hopes that they are part of the industry and will make our advertisers happy, as well as making those who do business here happy from a networking and business stand point.
For those that are clearly surfers this will be easy to take care of, for those that are on the border, it will be tough. In the end if you want to play here and do business, (which is one of the major reasons we should all be here) then you may have to deal with this and work with the mods to prove who you are.
If I were someone who didn't post much, but did a nice chunk of business here, I would have zero problem if I was asked to prove who I was and what I do.No OneComment

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

Sure I agree there has to be a balance. It does seem a little short-sighted to want to exclude anyone that doesn't work full time in the Adult Industry. I mean, if you're marketing directly to consumers and not b2b, wouldn't you want to have at least SOME representation of your target demoraphic available as a resource? Sure, if someone's just here to cause shit period, get rid of them. However, I'd argue there are at least some examples of people that while not in the business, aren't hurting anyone being around.
Again Gideon is a good example. I've never really seen him post shit just to cause shit. The guy's obviously very passionate about what he believes and all his fair use and yada yada. Personally I don't agree with much or most of what he says, and I just skip reading it. Robbie on the other hand can't help but get his granny panties all tangled up in a bunch everytime the guy posts. Instead of realizing that Gideon's not actually trying to harm him and just accepting they disagree, he has to constantly try to change Gideon's mind. When that doesn't work it breaks down to bullying. Yes that's exactly what I said, bullying. Just read the way he responds, it sounds like a frustrated school yard bully trying to show just how bad he is. It's ridiculous but at least comical to read.
On the other hand, we have people like Fatfoo, who presumably are just dandy to keep because they do some penny-ante adult writing on the side. The fact that the user posts absolutely nothing but fucking nonsense and plenty of it doesn't enter the equation at all.
Seems to me like a ridiculous sytem but hey I've come to expect ridiculous shit from this "industry". Fortunately I guess for me I'm not afraid of Robbie and crew and can easily proove I'm "in the business". I guess they'll have to make up some new rules to get rid of the "haters" like me.

You don't have a clue as to the majority of folks at the conventions. I've met and done business with some very smart people in this business. The last few shows have been dead as hell...but when they were happening there was a lot of money being made at them.
