Have you made a Turducken?
Have any of you made, cooked, or eaten a turducken before? I am thinking about having one for thanksgiving this year but am having trouble finding one in Portland.
If you have had one before, are they worth it, or is it all just hype? |

They are fantastic, but take real skill to prepare.
The turkey, the chicken and the duck must be de boned, while still remaining intact. If you dont have the skills to do that yourself, it's tough to find a 'real butcher' now days who has that kind of skill set

Nope, but I smoked a turkey this year and it turned out great. I've always wanted to try turducken, but it seems like a hassle.

It is a cajun dish. We have one every year at Thanksgiving and they are delicious if purchased from the right market, my brother in law is a coon ass and brings one up from La. I could not imagine trying to put one together though?

Yes I have, they are delish. Did it last year, was a bit of work. Afterwards I found out that Whole Foods and other specialty markets will prep it for you upon request.

The key to a good turkey is in the quality of the bird itself; you definitely want to go with organic. Deep fried is ok, but there's something about baking a turkey all day and filling up the house with a nice aroma that completes the tradition. One thing that I've done in the past is marinated the turkey overnight in a brine. Great tip I got from Martha Stewart, if you're worried about over-drying the turkey in the oven. That and a shitload of butter lol.
