You know cut out the middle man?

In Czech we have insurance companies. But they don't make anything like the money US ones do. Also the Government under write the companies I think. Best ask Eva. :1orglaugh

In the UK it goes direct to the Government who pay for hospitals and such like.

There's nothing wrong with a company taking over the system, in fact there's a lot to be said for it. But they have to be strictly controlled. Profits have to be limited, rules have to be in place to cover everyone.

In an industry that's shedding people as fast as the porn industry I staggers me so many think a safety net isn't required. Also anyone over 50 needs to think long and hard about their future. I'm retired now and don't pay. The money I paid over the last 45 years now covers me to my grave. It wasn't an insurance policy. It was an investment policy.

Think about the last statement before you shoot it down. :1orglaugh

The bottom line with health insurance is this. Health insurance is designed to cover you in the case of catastrophic illness or trauma. it's the same philosophy surrounding your auto, homeowners, or any other insurance along those lines. Do you file an auto insurance claim when you get a tune up? Need some new carpeting in your house? I bet you don't claim it on your homeowners insurance. Why people are unwilling to invest in their own health is amazing and dumbfounding. Flat panel TV's, $4,000 to pimp your ride..no problem. But when asked to give Dr. Jellyfinger a $100 after he checks out your orifices is just too much. The philosophy that the American populus is supposed to foot that bill is a bunch of horseshit.

There are many people that HAVE insurance and when something catastrophic actually happens their insurance company axes them. Do you know how easy it is for them to find a reason to cancel you? But no one seems to believe that this goes on until it happens to them or someone they know.

LOL LOL LOL How can a country call itself a superpower if 1/5 of its population doesn't have access to proper health care?

This is by far the biggest shining example of why the USA is failing right now. You are supposed to by the United States of America, key word united. Is it really so bad to have to pay for another American's health care? Usually when people need medical attention they aren't just doing it to waste time/money. Stick together where it's needed I say, show solidarity as the United States of America and stop being so withdrawn from each other.

I was admitted to the hospital 4 years ago after going into the ER with a high grade fever. Long story short, hospitalized 4 days. I had no insurance, yet received the best medical care possible. At the end of it I met with the business office and they set me up on a payment plan. It took me a couple of years to pay it off but I did pay it off. They even allowed me to set the amount of my monthly payments. My point? Everyone in this country already has access to health care, it's just not FREE.

Nearly 59 million Americans went without health insurance coverage for at least part of 2010, many of them with conditions or diseases that needed treatment, federal health officials said on Tuesday.
