I was looking to either join the air force or the navy, and I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience.

No army for me, and I'm hoping for an education along the way. I know the navy provides an education, but does the air force? Also, what would a daily schedule be like for me, and how many years do you typically serve to get a college scholarship? Thanks, Terrance |

i was in the air force. It actualy isnt that bad.

they have the shortest bootcamp.. airconditioning, better food, better looking whores, and cool jobs. tech school is in sheppard AFB in witchitafalls, TX and bootcamp is in san antonio. depending on your job, you can be out of tech school in less than 6 weeks, or upto 42 weeks.. but what ever you do, dont smoke in uniform, drink underage, bring girls into your room, or break cerfew.. that gets you kicked out if you do it to many times.. trust me i know.. i did it. air force has 4 year temrs, 6 if you are special forces. all branches have the GI bill.. you serve 4 yrs, then you can use that shit for college.. but they also have 'community college' while you are on active duty you can do aswell. My brother was in the navy, he hated it, but he traveld all over the world.. its give and take i guess.. each branch has its good points.

Jut curious, why would you post on an adult message board about it? Are you an adult webmaster or did you just happen onto this place?

Yes, I'm an adult webmaster, and I've been in the business for a while.

But, I need an education, and I've blown a lot of money after dropping out of college twice because being a webmaster took up all my time, and I need a scholarship to go back again, and I need to straighten out my life after all the years I've invested doing this stuff. Thanks for most of your post Anyways, I like training, how much do you train in the air force? Thanks, Terrance |

Be a man... go Army, go Airborne.

Serious the Air Forces has some realy great Tech, school's ( Electronic's) as a matter of fact the Navy use them for advance courses. But you really should think about the Army and going Airborne, one little thing though, if you do decide 2 go Airborne, get you ass in shape before going in. I don't care if your Superman, by the end of the 1st week of jump school you ASS will be draging the ground. A big plus with Airborne is all the whores like you, you'll be getting paid Haz. Duty Pay... One big down 2 the Air Forces is they have alot of bases out in the boon docks... I mean WAY out.

Just visit your local A.F. recruiter, then visit the Navy recruiter.. They can answer all of your questions. They're great salespeople.. |

I spent nine years, five months, and 22 days in the Navy, so I might be a little biased. :D Either one is a good option. In some respects there was more absolute chickenshit in the AF than there was in the Navy (spent part of my time on USAF bases) like the no smoking in uniform stuff, and they are hell on fraternazation between officers and enlisted. The technical training is about equal, with a slight edge to the AF; however, work experience you are likely to do a little more in the Navy.

You can get a bachelor's degree in any branch if you work at it. Some of the smallest posts offer college classes at pretty reasonable rates. But to expand on Scootermuze ... talk to ALL the branches, even the Coast Guard, and then make your decision. Sometimes one branch is hurting for a particular specialty and is offering incentives (advanced promotion, advanced training, etc.) that the others aren't for the same field. Oh yeah, and once you get all the information, remember that recruiters are salespeople, and turn to a reliable source for some advice. I'll let you decide where GFY fits in there... :D |

Take some advice from a combat vet, wait until this dickhead we have in office is out of office before you join. If you say you're too much of a pussy for the army, that tells me you wont be able to handle a combat deployment in any branch. And heres a clue for the clueless: all branches of the military are in the warfighting business, thats all they exist for. think about it, and go enroll in jr college. From what you've said here, you dont seem the type to handle what pres bush will send you up against. |

while the navy has changed since the days of 'rum, sodomy, and the lash' it still looks pretty good. but for my money there is nothing kewler or hotter than a marine in full dress uniform! go marines! how do the marines work anyway? are they separate or part of the army? |

My son is in the process of joining the Air Force. He'll finish up this semester in school because it will earn him enough hours to go in as an E-3.

You earn an associates degree through their community college, but you can take courses at any college near the base you're assigned to to complete your bachelor's degree. When you have the bachelor's, you're eligible for Officer's candidate school, but we're still trying to find out if you can enroll before your 4 years is up. In asking around, we found the USAF has the most opportunities to get training that works OUTSIDE the military. He's looking at getting training in the medical field - probably cardiopulmonary tech training (there are a lot of old people that are going to need help Do as PD suggested (as he's one that gave ME excellent advice when I was asking about this Good luck! With today's economy, having the guarantee of a military check - albeit not a large one - is great! |

It's cool that you want to put in a little time in the armed forces. I put in a few years in the Air Force out of high school. I was stationed in Georgia as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist - which by the way - I could shoot myself now for. There aren't that many private sector jobs for that skillset after I got out. Give some thought to what it is you're wanting to accomplish. Combining your job in the service with a community/college degree will make you a prime applicant in the private sector when you get out. The Air Force's boot camp is a breeze. If you join for the 6 year program you can come out of boot camp as an E-3. My PDS (permanent duty station) was in Warner Robbins, Georgia and it was like staying at a Motel 6. 2 man rooms with a shared bathroom with another 2 man room directly behind ours. Refrigerators in the rooms that held exactly 3 cases of beer It was by far the best times of my life - right up until I got caught with our Wing Commanders' 18 year old daughter in my room ! I wound up with a gereral under honorable conditions discharge for that one - but it was worth it. He was an asshole commander hated by most of the enlisted men and I have to say it was pure joy to stand there in front of him when both he and I knew I fucked his daughter the night before! Military Police will pretty much allow you to choose your PDS (state-side or not) and allow you to stay in 1 place most of your time in the service. If you like to travel - look into being a Load Master. They're the guys that load/balance airplanes/determine fuel requirements. They generally operate out of 1 base but fly all over the world and don't take months (like a boat would) to get there. Both jobs offer you good private sector choices when you get out. |

I'm still leaning towards the Navy. I'll be scheduling an appoitment to talk to recruiters within the next few months, just needed some quick insight to everything. Thanks, Terrance |

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. |

Was in the AF for 12 years before deciding to fly solo and do this webmastering thing full time. I spent 4 years too long imo, but the first 8 years were a blast. I wouldn't recommend it as a carreer (20yrs +) unless you're REALLY into flying jets or something, but it's a kick ass experience. Navy's cool too though, had quite a few buds in there, flip a coin and go for it, but if you like creature comforts the AF is the ONLY way to go. type-atcha-later |
