Not exactly where you'll find the holiday spirit.

Wouldn't want to do new years. New years is supposed to be a party, and vegas is always a party. It would ruin new years imo and wouldn't be anything special. Christmas on the other hand would be great. People, Party, Gambling, No family = win for christmas.

I spent christmas there 2 years ago and it was one of my favorite ones ever. There's plenty of holiday spirit there, most the hotels go all out with decorations. We had amazing dinners for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and room service breakfest on Christmas morning... No messes, no fuss, no cleanup, and hell the hotel prices were cheaper than normal.

Vegas strip was pretty busy. There are a lot a nice displays, especially at the Bellagio, and lots of light displays at night. A buddy picked us up and took us to an outdoor skating setup on Lake Las Vegas (small rink which is actually floating on the water) which was cool... I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Skipping out on familial obligations didn't hurt either

for me, Vegas is good everyday of the week, especially at the $40/$80 No Limit tables (Wynn or MGM)

Christmas in Vegas used to be a dead zone (in a good way). Tourists would stay home with family, so it was a great time for locals to get out and get in the spirit.

The last several years, that's started to change and it's gotten busier. You can still get pretty good room rates and there are a ton of deals to be had. It's not the madhouse that is New Years Eve in Las Vegas though...
