Is this the full story? The girl and her mother were arguing so they drove to a poilce station (?!?!?) and the daughter was tasered because she ran into a park? I wonder what this story was missing?

Sounds like it was a accident that it hit her in the head. I think the mom brought her to the police station for something other then a cell phone disagreement. The city should pay for the injuries and chalk it up to a stupid girl trying to run from the cops and got hurt while resisting arrest.

My guess is that the mother brought her there because she was a danger to herself and to others and the police had to find a way to stop her. And the injury wasn't on purpose. Kind of hard to aim a taser dart and hit a small target like her head.

While I think that police forces in general need tighter restrictions on when they can/can't use tasers (in some places MUCH tighter restrictions), but... and I'm not making excuses for all the overzealous butthead cops out there of which there are many, but I also have to say that I really don't feel much sympathy or remorse for most criminal idiots who get a tasering. Seems like nearly every bit of footage I see lately is some moron who can't obey a simple command from a cop, or they resist, or run away instead of stopping, etc.

Hey, if you do something illegal and get caught and you refuse to drop the knife, bat, or screwdriver, or you struggle while being arrested, or throw shit at the cops or their car, or any number of dumbass things that idiots do when they're about to be arrested, then you pretty much get what you get.

Just be thankful it wasn't a couple of bullets in your ass I guess.

Saw that in AUS they hoped that the tasers would reduce gun usage but it only increased. And that story is just one of many. I believe they need strickter restrictions and training for when and how to use it. One crazy ex. of missuse is when a old guy with a heart condition refuses to go to the hostpital cus he has no insurance they eventually shoot him with that thing continuously forcing him to go. i think the video was from youtube if you want to see that episode.

Great she was a danger to herself so it's ok for the cop to tase her?

Even if the cop wasn't trying to hit her in the head I'm not sure an electric shock to a poor dumb teenage girl is the answer.

A good cop could outrun her and take control of the situation without the use of such an extreme method.

Taser guns are not toys, there are cases of people killed with that kind of shit

The problem with all of these police assaults is that there seems to be little if any repercussions when police assault civilians.

If there were jail terms etc that would make these people think twice before whipping out the taser on anyone for no good reason.

That would make the police ineffective. Nurses in the UK, for example are required to attend people in need of medical help even when they are outside of work but i know for a fact that many of them will just walk past because they are too afraid of being sued. The same would just happen to the police, they would be too afraid to do their job properly.

Down here in New Orleans they are about to change things to require cops to have some college education. I believe I read that some study showed cops with more education are less likely to engage in "police brutality."

They should do like in Europe and have state police. This will give the opportunity to move the officers around, to let them operate in larger towns and learn how to handle situations like this.
The swat team in my town 3 years back shot each other in a sting by mistake, the same thing repeated it self last winter.

In cases like this the cop wont even get suspended, the court is in his town, the district attorney knows him, the judge knows him and the jury wont fuck with him.
