My bot is, as we speak, sending out DMCA notices to have them taken down... :helpme

wow that really sucks! I agree 100% with dwb about having a place where we can be among the ones that are in this biz and not just every dick tom and harry! I think it should be set up so if you're in this biz and are known you would be in, if you're in this biz and not well known well you're out!

That would be correct fine sire.

There is plenty going on in the shadows of this industry that would curl the toes of some of the SHEEPle if they actually knew who the wizards were behind the curtains.

:2 cents:

Then isn't it about time to give the power to the minorities to reverse that trend?

I've had lots of contact from people from that thread and while none of them can be considered as the top crust, they are certainly the ones who are fed up with the current situation and want to do something to protect their own rights.

Unlike the big boys, I'm not in this to profit from racketeering, or else I would never have given out step-by-step instructions on how to lock down your streams. It went one better in developing something that allowed someone to search for stolen images to help in DMCA notice preparation. Maybe at some point I'll figure out how to do the same with videos, or even better still, we as a community will figure it out with available technology, maybe not.

In any case, putting the power to the "regular joe" to combat this problem is what is needed, and tbh, I never realised it until I made that piracy thread (which I only made because of something Robbie said in one of the Lightspeed threads)

I think though I learnt a valuable lesson in not being so damn public with my ideas! Which is a shame, cos that thread is a classic example of what can be achieved through bouncing ideas around.

If it wasn't for *fear* of reprisal, I'd go a lot further in public :2 cents:

The attack was ridden out and amazon and rackspace (whose cloud services were used) were notified and the zombies dropped at the switch.

Of course I've no proof, but in the 12 years I've run dedicated servers, I've always flown well enough under the radar to attract attention. The week my server is used publicly to put up some anti-piracy ideas, I get hit over the head with a concrete beam.

All I can assume is I pissed off some hard core pirates and this was their way of saying GFY.

So, beware folks.

Wasn't there a ddos attack on some of the lawyers that were filing the DCMA torrent suits?

If everybody is using there own versions/parameters it makes it that much harder for the pirates to counter. :winkwink:

A few people from different parts of multiple industries with different backgounds can come up with some amazing concepts. :2 cents:

ps. I dropped you an email the other day with some more stuff to confuse you! :1orglaugh

Well, in a forum about "simply business" discussing things/solutions to things that are problematic to this industry, I don't see how I should have expected to be "playing with fire"

DWB is right though, things like the educational series forum and the piracy forums should be locked down (hell, fee paying why not) as they *only* pertain to those in this industry.

Coincidence? Probably, but I feel humbled to be one targeted ahead of attacks on RCN, now looks like Hustler?

Well, actually I'm pretty pissed that XBiz didn't run a press relase saying "small-time porn peddler targetted by xxxxxx for trying to avert porn piracy"

Something smells fishy anyway.

Yeah, I've had my shit attacked for no reason other than offering services, or making a snide remark. People still treat the internet like the wild west, since it's so difficult to enforce retribution.

Glad you had it taken care of. I hate it when I don't have a good enough relationship with a network to have them 'just handle it' since they're obviously not going to give me enable.

Thanks for the kind words folks - all is back to normal now.

The fight will still go on and I'll develop what was developed in that thread to become a "package" of sorts that anyone who wants to can implement. It will be a good few weeks though, since working on stuff from that thread let me slip behind in other areas that now need my attention.

When it's ready though, I'll post in that thread - so if you're interested, keep it bookmarked.

Sounds awesome.

There are forums I have seen where Russian hackers advertise the bot networks they use for DDoS attacks. It can be turned on pretty quick and is not that expensive.
