I think events are moving quickly, and things change very quickly in the world these days

I'm not really talking about war ... I'm just talking about political and economic growth

The US economy has some real red flags (dollar dropping, huge national debt, trade gap...)

It was something KRL said the other day: wars boost the economy, that's why the US likes them (within reason. well... )

But the opposite is true -- wars are BAD for the economy, if they're in your country.

And I'm thinking when the US has war on it's soil, the blood lust may die down

The ones that have the power can keep it, but no one else can get it, basically.

You are correct. If memory serves me well, there are only four countries that are not signators of the NPT. Well with N Korea's withdrawal I guess there is five. Bottom line is, the world (with the five exceptions) has voluntarily agreed that nuclear proliferation is not a good thing.

If it ever comes to the war on the US soil it will sure as hell bring all the world down to the asteriod belt, there will be just no more earth to bring somebody (yes, even polititians) down to it.

Now I'm clueless as to what was your original point about 15 years.

No country on the earth, or even the combined countries on the earth, has the naval power to invade the USA. Few countries on the earth have ICBM's that can reach the USA and if a nuclear strike was inititiated against the USA, within minutes that country would be destroyed with a massive retalitory strike. Terrorists acts on the soil of the USA is the only war that can be launched against the USA. In addition the USA will be a dominant power for the remainder of your life.

too many countries have nukes now. no country that doesn't have them should begin producing them. especially countries with aggressive leaders.

Bombers and military junk metal and "we are invincible" chat is meaningless. Caesar was invincible as well and he had far more power in relative terms than the US today.

Changes of power start with economics and these changes have already started with the "empire" of the US. The US economy is shrinking and in a "state of denial" and this will continue while other regions strengthen.

This cycle has been repeated time and again and will continue...

As for nuclear power, those who have it get "jealous" about others having it - morality ain't on that horizon - more like "I'm a big guy and I wanna be able to smash your face in". Tis more "kids talk" and that of a bully than anything sane. Odd world :)

I never mentioned the Canadian economy and current unemployment figures ain't a guide to the overall decline of the US economy (although they are a joke). There are other regions on this planet in a more fit state for growth than the US.

On a "minor" level the dollar is buggered - based on some crystal ball value (kinda like Wall Street share values). The national debt is a joke. The foreign investment in US is supported at a rate of 1.4 Billion a day cos of the currency. Some of these "little" things may just give a a clue - course, I am a uneducated moron - so wot the fuck do I know :Kissmy

What the fuckdo you know? Not much about economy, I can tell you that. Dollar is finally falling down to more natural levels. Actually strong dollar hurt US economy, making exports expensive and imports cheap, expect another 10%fall of the dollar.
NAFTA zone did much better than Eurozone last year

I am only VERY happy that I ain't holding a lot of US dollars since they would have cost me hell knows wot! Instead my *real value* increased by about 24% while I sat on my ass and did nothing - that's "real" economics - and thanks to some of these "doing not so well countries" :glugglug

Yea yea.. lower it, up it as ya want! I ain't giving a shit about the US economy - just know it is a joke and getting worse! If ya want to give lectures on economy - start off by explaining to Bush how to spell economy.. na.. don't bother - Condi probably told him - she's good at spelling! :Graucho

last i checked the global economy is shit, not only the states.

o and webby the reason why the US dollar dropped was because it was overvalued. usually people pump money into US dollars as a 'safe place' for their money when things aren't going to well. gold is another place where money goes during those same times.

Rose 01-11-2003 12:25 AM

Ok last response,I'll try again. do you know why Canadian economy is the fastest growing economy among all civilized nations right now? I'll give you a clue = canadian low dollar, it makes canadian products much cheaper abroad.

?? Canadian economy now?? Yea... so? The point? They got a nuclear arsenal in Canada now or is this another "try" at stating the obvious in the basic economic lecture?

All I was saying was the US economy is up shit creek (along with many others) and many other regions are in a far better state to grow than the US. This was only mentioned as a "sideline" to a shift in power - not mean't as some sensitive debate on the US economy. Sheesh.. some folks are sensitive about stuff!

Times change and seem to have changed pretty quick in the US over the last couple of years.. that ain't hard to see....

Rich 01-11-2003 12:52 AM

I haven't read the conversation in this thread, but I'll comment on the question; because they're going to be responsible with them.

They have to have them, or else other countries would have something over them. They're the most powerfull country in the world, and even though I'm not American, I'm damn glad they are. They don't want to let hostile countries get their hands on nukes, and I'm damn glad they're stepping up and stopping it. I'm not politically correct at all, all I care about is the safety of my familly, and entire country for that matter.

economies have good times and bad. right now the states is going through very slow growth. that doesn't mean their economy is 'up shit creek'.

OK.. "up shit creek" ain't the economists term - some massaged figures/percentages might be appropriate *s* Hell knows.. who does know how far up the creek it is - time will tell. I just ain't got this good feeling about it and the current management of it, but sure hope I am badly wrong!

FlyingIguana 01-11-2003 01:13 AM

only two things can drive the american economy into a recession right now. one, a war on iraq. two, inflation, which jumps enough to force the fed reserve to increase interest rates. those are the most likely causes of a decline.

no economy can sustain high growth levels, especially one with the size of the american economy. whats going on now is simply the business cycle doing its thing. i believe there was only a one quarter recession which is nothing. might have been two, they revised shit and i didn't really keep up on the bs.
