So let's go through these ideas.

Idea #1 - We default on the debt. Not a terrible idea. It will wreck our ability to get loans from other countries and those countries that invest in ours may pull out, but the debt is gone. Then what? This will most likely cause all kinds chaos and economic trouble which we would have to recover from. We could, but how, unless we lower our standard of living dramatically or lower the cost of things dramatically we can't manufacture on a level where we would be able to compete with other countries. So we have no debt, but we still have no good jobs, unless I'm not seeing something here.

Idea #2 - Get factories up and running to full capacity again. So again, I ask what would we make that we could sell to the world that would be either cheaper or so much better that we could compete with third world countries who can pay 1/100 of the labor cost.

Idea #3 - Back to the gold standard. Nice idea, but we would have to see a major adjustment in prices for this to happen and we would have to see a big reduction in the amount of actual currency out there. This could happen and it would help reestablish the value of the dollar, but how exactly is this going to create jobs that pay more than minimum wage?

You have good ideas, I just want to know how you would plan to play them out.

Our standard of living is going to be lowered once the dollar is no longer the reserve currency, and all the treasury securities come flooding back to our country en masse. At least with a default, we can start off somewhat fresh and build up again. But yea, it does get rid of our debt.

We reached our economic apex in the 50's not because our stuff was necessarily cheaper, but because it was better quality. I would pay more money for better quality shit than buy something cheap from China. The problem is, our reputation regarding quality products has gone to shit. And the formation of unions don't help either. The fact is though, the unemployment problem would be solved and if ANYTHING, a manufacturing sector would drastically increase domestic demand, which is what we need. China is doing that now.

Well, that's how the gold standard works. When the dollar is covered by gold through lets say a 20% Gold cover clause ratio, prices will all go down. For instance, instead of 100k you'd be making 30k and that would never rise because our money is backed by something tangible. All of these bonuses and income increases are illusions. You'd be making 30k but everything would be so incredibly cheap, your standard of living would actually be higher. And being on the gold standard, minimum wage jobs would actually increase the standards of living for those people because prices would be ridiculously low.

Yeah, I guess in regards to the gold standard I worded things wrong. in theory your standard of living would be about the same, maybe even better, but you would make less, however things would cost a lot less. It would be a hard sell for a lot of people, but it could help us.

I also agree that we need to return to offering a higher quality product or at least national pride in our products. Many people don't care about quality, they care about cheap. Walmart would not be as big as it is if people cared about quality. If we can make somethings that are simply better, but still competitive on price we might be able to build some manufacturing, however I think the days of us returning to being a manufacturing power are gone and won't be coming back soon. What I feel we need to do is focus on technology and energy. If we can produce and develop new technologies we can sell that to manufacturing countries. If we can mass produce green energy we can sell that as well, not to mention cut ourselves off from having to buy all the oil from countries that don't like us.

Even if we return to a place where the average manufacturing job pays $3 per hour and a person can live decently on that wage, it still doesn't compete with the guy who makes $1 a day in a third world country doing the same thing. And it seems to me that if our dollar value increased and our wages decreased then you could also see a decrease in wages within third world countries.

The problem is most of these solutions come with an ugly cost. people are going to have to suffer and change in order for all of this to take hold. They could be better once it is done, but getting there will not be easy. People will not volunteer to do this and I doubt they will elect politicians that would so I think the only way any of this will come about is if the economy does crater and this is put forth as the only solution.

I was in the army, and I'm sure that there were some guys in there that were gay, and I couldn't care less. As long as people behave themselves when it comes to respecting others, I have no problem.

Let me try stating it like this. A guy joins the army. He decides after his first 4 years are up to reenlist. After that 4 years he decides he wants to make it a career. He is 10 years into his career when it is found out he is gay. He has had a perfect, spotless record up until now and has been a model soldier, but now it is found out that he is gay and he is thrown out. It would be one thing if they said up front when he enlisted that if you are gay and you lie to us about it you will be tossed, but when that doesn't happen, you do your job perfectly and then get tossed that is wrong.

Should a person be forced to live their life in secret because otherwise they will lose their job? What if he wants to take his guy out to a romantic dinner. Someone sees him there and it is the kind of place couples go, not a couple of singles guys. Or maybe he wants his long time boyfriend to move in with him (of if he is in a state that allows it get married to the guy). Should he be forced to just stay at home and never be seen in public with his boyfriend for fear of getting thrown out of the military?

What it boils down to is this. Do we tell gay people if they want to serve in the military they have to be prepared to be tossed out the minute they are found out so they better live like a second class citizen and never attempt to lead a normal life when they are off duty?

If the military had a rule that simply said, "No gays allowed and if you lie about being gay and get caught you will be thrown out." I would have no problem with that. Some people might see it as being discrimination, but I have always felt that companies should be allowed to hire whomever they want and if the military is essentially a big company.

The problem is there is no rule like this. So you can join, devote years to them and get tossed out simply because you are gay.

As for the other things. Adultery? If there is a hard and fast rule that you are made aware of when you join that committing adultery will get you tossed, then I have no problem with those who do it getting tossed. Same with fucking a tranny. If there are rules against it and you know that going into it and still choose to break them, then I don't have a problem with you getting tossed.

They either need to allow gay people to serve in the military openly or not allow them to serve at all. Right now they are stuck somewhere in the middle and it is wrong.

Gays know up front that they will be denied enlistment if they admit to being gay. Before DADT the question was asked prior to taking the oath...when DADT was enacted...the question cannot be asked prior to taking the oath...which was a way to allow those gays that want to serve in the military...to serve.

Once a person takes the oath at that moment he now is required to abide by military law as provided in the UMCJ.

Below is an article of the UMCJ.

§ 925. Art. 125. Sodomy

(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense.
(b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

Thus a gay can be gay...but cannot overtly practice homosexuality.
