Wordpress question

Seriously, if i run a site that is dedicated to several products of one kind, say a review site why use WordPress, whats so exciting about it? I dont get it, i can update html much quicker and make it look better easier and faster. Where is the trick?

You are also a designer, so yes, you could build/update and make something else just as nice. Not all of us are designers or programmers, so this is a ready built solution that will do anything we want it to, AND do it very well.

If it's faster for you just make the site by hand.

If you want a site with users / categories / design themes / search capabilities / rss etc. use wordpress.

Don't panic it's just a cms.

with the right plugins you can just hit the publish button and wp will automagically ping, publish to twitter/fbook/etc, add related content, etc - i love it, it's a big timesaver.
plus, it's pretty well seo'd right out of the box.

WordPress is like a chisel in the hand of an artist. The skilled artist can craft almost anything he wants with his chisel. If you are an unskilled artist with a chisel then you are gonna have to put in the time to learn the craft.

It is so common amongst websites that is quickly becoming the 'norm'. You set up wordpress and just let it fly out of the box, and you will be doing nothing wrong (as its the norm).

Having a little skill or knowledge of what to do with it, as TheSenator mentioned, allows you to do stuff far above the norm.

Are people seriously getting angry about whether or not someone else uses WordPress?

To me, this is a bit like asking "why do webmasters use content management systems capable of delivering dynamic pages rather than manually building lots of static HTML pages by hand." This is a question that I had presumed could never be asked after, say, 2002, but GFY is full of surprises. The answer, in short, is the ability to add, modify, and remove content that is uniform in layout, properly referenced and linked to other pages, and to do so with relative ease.

If that isn't the core of your question, and perhaps you mean to ask "why do all Wordpress blogs look alike," then I would argue that there are many Wordpress-powered sites that look quite nice and seeing as how Wordpress is merely a CMS, it's up the creativity and capability of the webmaster/designer/developer to break the standard blog mold and create a captivating site.

As for the popularity of Wordpress, I believe that's due to it's ease of use and cost. Its famous "five minute install" is appealing to webmasters who aren't familiar with script installations, and most hosts now have auto-install services or trained support members who can easily install it for them. There is a dedicated team of developers behind the core codebase of Wordpress, so it's always being updated to incorporate new features or patch exploits, not to mention the plethora of plugins and themes available to extend the functionality of a Wordpress site. And, of course, it's free.

My two cents.

Joomla might be better for a kick ass review site with heavy interactivity.

lol you may want to look up server side includes, since you're apparently moved on from 1997 and are quickly approaching 1999.

I can appreaciate your time placing ironic notes here but i'm NOT a techie mofo i do graphics and i dont run 100s of blogs, where WP wins if i run just one site dedicated to several products, i have asked how WP can benefit with SEO, can you please step over your ignorance and pride to actually tell something helpful?

I do not need tons of plugins to run a simple site about 10 products.

If you are just putting up a few products and not really changing content consistently, and you are good with css/html/graphics, then sure. It probably might not be what you need. But if you have something that content is changing often, and you want a good structure without having to do a ton of work. Wordpress is much less work. I have no design skill. So there are many good themes out there that I can use. That will put a design right on an easy to use CMS and I have a site within minutes.
