Keeping your home PC out of sleep and screensaver modes is pretty easy. Right click on desktop and its in properties, depending on windows ver.

I haven't read all the replies but just use a VPN or proxy. You can get a fast and secure VPN for like $5. One of the VPN's I have are through these guys http://hidemyass.com/vpn/ and I haven't had any problems at all.

Your VPN account gets setup right after payment.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet but you can setup ssh tunneling on one of your servers and configure your browser to use it as a proxy.

Definitely the best way to go is to download gotomypc on your desktop, then use it to access your desktop from your laptop, and you can then go to GFY via your desktop.

Actually I keep the vast majority of my most sensitive data at home, and simply access it remotely with my laptop by using gotomypc.
