If you?re black and a student at one public middle school in Mississippi, you can?t run for president ? only whites need apply. Nettleton Middle School in Nettleton, Miss., has segregated its elected class positions by race, according to a memo sent home with children at the school last week that was obtained by NBC News. The memo was first brought to light when Brandy Springer, a mother of four children, contacted blogger Suzy Richardson, founder and editor of the blog mixedandhappy.com. It was also reported by Gawker.

?My [eighth-grade] daughter came home from[Nettleton] school telling me that she wanted to try out for the school reporter, but it is only open to black students,? Springer wrote Richardson. ?They told her ?she should run for class president, that was open to only white students.'? The memo indicates that only white students can be president of the school?s eighth grade, while only black students can be vice president.

In seventh grade, whites are the only ones who can be both president and vice president, while the only position a black student at Nettleton can apply for in sixth grade is that of the class reporter.

The FAA has proposed a $24 million fine against American Airlines, which would be the largest civil penalty in the agency's history.

The FAA said the fine was because of American Airlines' "failing to correctly follow an Airworthiness Directive involving the maintenance of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft."

?We put rules and regulations in place to keep the flying public safe,? U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a press release. ?We expect operators to perform inspections and conduct regular and required maintenance in order to prevent safety issues. There can be no compromises when it comes to safety.?

After all it was a WHITE girl that could not be a REPORTER and she was the one complaining. The WHITE girl was being discriminated against. Apparently no blacks wanted to be president? If no one black wanted to be president then no discrimination took place. The only discrimination this article talks about is a WHITE girl could not be a reporter because her skin was white.

Is it right what they are doing? No way in hell. But at least could we see some unbiased news reporting?

Under former policy, blacks could not be class president

The school board in Nettleton, Miss., voted Friday to reverse its policy under which race determined whether a candidate could run for class positions, including president. According to a memo sent home with students last week, African-American students could not run for class president in Nettleton Middle School this school year. However, the board voted at an emergency session Friday to drop that policy, according to Craig Ford, a reporter with the NBC News affiliate WTVA, who attended the meeting.

Yes racism is a problem. It's been a problem for eons and will continue to be for eons. Having the first black president here was wonderful to combat racism against blacks for at least a brief period of time, but when the first black president who campaigned as Superman is not improving anyone's situation yet (I am giving him SOME benefit of the doubt but I've only seen things absolutely plummet for everyone around me), all of a sudden the racism issue hasn't really improved at all, and I don't think there can really be anything that can be done aside from what he himself is doing to really affect things one way or another. Whether he likes it or not, it all rests on his shoulders because of the position he's attained.

So that said, I go back to my last comment in that who cares about a town with 2k people in it with it comes to major social issues? That's like looking at some of the fucking silly stupid laws some of these places have and making a big deal out of them.

The fact that you don't like "bad news" does not = me sensationalizing an article widely available to the entire world.
