Are you ready for the fall?

IPTV has been being talked about for years now. But this fall, it will start to happen. Why? Google TV and Apple's iTV, my friend. Yes, them.

September 1st Apple are set to announce their 'iTV'. A small storage-less, screen-less iphone 4 that will plug into your HDMI telly and be controlled via your iphone/ipad/magic trackpad. It will have apps. Those apps will be TV stations. So rather than pay a monthly fee to your cable company, you buy - say - the HBO app. And bingo bango bongo you've got HBO content wherever you want, whenever you want. All using cloud storage. Brilliant. But this is Apple and Mr Jobs says porn is wrong. Indeed...

But Google TV will be Android-based with no such porn restrictions.

And boxee has just released a new version with a FILM section with all streaming free, ad supported movies. They already have plenty of porn boxee apps. Most of the big tubes are ALREADY IN THIS SPACE.

Why aren't the content producers preparing for this next evolution of TV? That's not a rhetorical question. If I made content I would so have a boxee porn app already running and be ready to port it over to google tv. Your reason you don't do this is...?

Maybe pushing apps could be a new aff revenue stream? So you get a kickback for every New Sensations app you get someone to activate.

The battle ground is going to be so interesting. Google Vs Apple on your phone, your TV, your tablet, your PC, your media supplier...

Totally agree i think this could be a huge thing for aff revenue, are there any currently available to promote that you know of?

It is $99. It is iOS4. It has no storage. It is tiny.*

It is - essentially - nothing at all like the current appletv. Which I have and used until I started using Boxee and Plex.

*assuming - of course - all the rumours are true.

No, but content producers need to get onto people's TVs. They could do this with IPTV. They will need people to get other people to install their NSCash app.

I could see it working.

it could be huge. taking some of these sites into tv format would work very well. New Sensations has enough content for 24/7 broadcasting not to mention cheap to produce live shows with their stars hawking the latest films etc....endless possibilities.

and live shows can be CHEAP to produce, digital playground had a member plugin for a long time that was like a porn variety show with guests talking about the latest videos etc.

IPTV of sorts is with us now.

Most Panasonik (and probably other firms too) have net tv built into the blue ray players. these aslo update the softwear from the net. its easy to watch such as youtube on your hi def plamsma.

Live shows are dirt cheap to produce. So cheap they can be given away. One of my best clients www.3wayscash.com offers anyone that wants it a free live show from a London TV studio. 20 hours a day, live, one two and sometimes 3 girls. Special themed nights like Strap On Saturday. You can see it now on www.tvalways.com as an example. You get the feed free, and if they click you get aff ref and if they call the number to talk with the girl you get a cut of that too.

But yes, like you said, using it to broadcast old content and advertise new stuff is exactly what I had in mind. And the live is a natural add on.

Yes, I said it was already here with boxee and plex. Which is considerably more advanced than watching youtube on your bluray. Check it out. http://www.boxee.tv/ Just plug a spare PC into your telly (I have an older macbook pro running it, with HDMI out to the telly and then 5.1 optical sound out the my amp).

I don't see how this is any different or better than downloading a free torrent of a movie, an HBO series, or porn, and having my TV connected to my computer since 2001?

Because it is a $99 device that will soon be built into tvs and is designed for BUYING content legally using an app store. It's about cloud storage of this legal content. It is about removing cable companies.

It's about as different as you could possibly get from pirating content and pushing it to your tv via WMC or whatever you use.

Well I cut and pasted the OP from my blog, www.adultmarketing.co.uk

But as neither google tv or apple itv is out yet, I doubt there is much being written about porn on google tv!

Overview here:

http://www.google.com/tv/

The point is, for the first time a very cheap, very low power, very easy to use device will be controlling our TVs. The android version will allow porn apps. The android version will be built into TVs next year.

Game changing times are starting next month. IMHO.

This is the real revolution for this kind of streams.

I bet that someone is preparing to stream torrents videos on those applications.

Let we see...

very interesting stuff, thanks for the links.

i wonder how much hbo will charge, sounds like a one time fee? or yearly fee?
if it was a one time fee would it be 100 bucks? it will be interesting to see the pricing structure on premium mainstream channels.

but with porn the equation could change dramatically.

you could have two stations, one a FREE promo station which shows limited previews of videos just to hype the hell out of the pay station.

as you say live stuff is pretty cheap, you get an attractive girl simply talking about upcoming videos or related events on the free channel which shows them a bit of whats really going on with the pay channel.

could open up an entire sub-industry for companies actually running the channels as many big porn producers don't do "TV" style stuff or aren't equipped to, or just don't want the hassle.

No. Install boxee. Then unhide the adult apps. And hey presto, free porn on your TV.

boxee > settings > apperance > view options > hide adult applications

boxxxe
boxxxe pov
youporn

are all installed by default, but you can add other apps.

Ok - I see the difference - interesting.... but it's definitely not as "different as you can get"

I'd love for it, or anything else to work, and give more opportunity back to the content producers

Exactly, it gives content creators a route to market bypassing cable companies. And indeed a freemium model is exactly what I would do. Free app with ads and lower quality stream or a 10 bucks a month premium app, no ads, and HD.

HBO haven't announced an app for it, as the device isn't announced yet. I'd be surprised if they don't though. I know apple are in talks with companies trying to get $1 a episode pricing agreed in general. Whether that carries across to this as yet unannounced product or not I don't know.

I'm sure it still has a lot of market value... personally I fucking hate cable... the odd time I sit down to watch TV there is nothing fucking on... I already have cable cancelled at my house (where I only watch movies... guess where from) and I'll probably soon have it cancelled at the office as well

Personally, instead of new technologies with convenient purchasing methods and cool looking interfaces, I'd be more adept to going back into content production when you post about 'the future' of tube sites/torrent sites/etc going down.

How can we prepare our content librarys to fit this new format?

i think torrents and tubes are going to be very boring very soon.

imagine the possiblities with true TV porn, the sky is the limit.
videos,live shows,live sex shows,call in shows,contests,reality shows...real interaction on your tv.
many porn companies can swing this kind of entertainment and they will.
i can see Hustler having an amazing channel with all of the things they currently do and more without the inconvenience of having to get on your computer, just turn on your tv.

then you start talking about using a device like the realtouch machine or whatever in a live setting on your tv....jeezus

create more interactive/live venues where tubes and torrents cannot compete.

If it's a technology porn can be on, you can be sure PV is on top of it.

imo its only going to work if companies treat this as television and not just put their content on it and let it go. if they don't take advantage of the dynamic possibilities other companies will and they will thrive in this setting.

and yes, production companies geared toward this medium should see a sharp increase in activity over the next year.

if this is true, you will notice a HUGE hike in your internet price per month.

notice how the ISPs also offer TV and DVR packages... a threat to their revenue there means they will make it up elsewhere.

I can only imagine somewhere where they cycle your internet every so often so it breaks streaming content and people get pissed and return back to good old cable tv

Been monitoring this delivery space for a while now. It's extremely exciting with all kinds of opportunities for big and small players. However, there are many powerful players in this game that will have their revenue streams threatened. It might end up as a smaller niche play. That being said, it might still be a very very lucrative place to be, for producers and traffic aggregates.
