Designers vs. Brokers: BAH!

Designers, wake the fuck up and stop doing business with design brokers. It is obvious from hundreds of posts over the past 3 months that these brokers are taking credit for YOUR work and are either paying you a fraction of what your work is worth or they don't pay you at all.
Wake up.

Wake up to what? No industry standards. No industry regulatory organization. This business is survival of the fittest...and the smartest...and the most cunning. Unfortunately that will NEVER fit into anyone persons definition of what is ETHICAL or what is RIGHT or what is HONEST.

Business is business. I blame lazy photoshoppers who dont have enough energy to research the legal implications and issues surrounding copyright ownership...not to mention failing to understand a shred of common business sense...nor trying to establish what the true MARKET VALUE of their work is....

Do you think that a real estate agent who "flips" a property at a substantially higher value then original purchase price owes ANYTHING to the original owner?

Do you think an antique dealer should charge LESS to a customer then what they paid for an item at an auction?

Business is selfish. It has to be. It's business. But until you can point to an ACCEPTED INDUSTRY STANDARD of what is RIGHT and what is WRONG in the adult webmaster biz, you cannot successfully judge nor condemn the actions of people you may morally/ethically disagree with.

that is the point of the "designer VS brokers" not that anyone is pissed that the broker made a cut.
but %100 of the cut?
lets say this happened with a realestate agent.. they turn the house over and dont pay the previous owner.. now after a month where would that be...???

Not sure how you can draw the conclusions that you have drawn about what I said but I'll chalk that up to you misunderstanding my point.

How many designers you know have the resources or knowledge to mount a court challenge to someones actions?

The blame has to lie somewhere. If a designer is paid $2 for work that was resold for $2000 - it's the intelligence of the designer at fault.

On the other hand....If a design broker fails to pay a designer (which is the worst possible business practice) - that designer has many options..outing them on the webmaster forums...ICQing all their clients and giving them the 411, etc, etc....yet these options amount to little more than libel since the only course of action one should take in such a situation is through the courts, after all, the foundation of our society is based on accepted codes and laws.

Designers are creative types. Brokers are usually Business types. In a self-policed industry, obviously the bad apples will be able to succeed - regardless of the complaints of those they have hurt. Therefore - weeding out the bad guys takes common sense - yet in the BLING BLING world of the adult biz - people see DOLLAR SIGNS before they see the implications of business agreements.

Unfortunately young and naive artists, talented ones, exist all over and get fucked over and taken advantage of all the time. In many industries.

It usually takes a couple of good fucking-over's to learn the hard way and figure out how to do good business without a rep or broker.

I used to have my own interior design biz, and I have sued 3 people for a few k's and won. Millionaires too that try to rip you off. Businesses that close and disappear with your stuff and never pay you.

I learned the hard way myself. And honestly I sort of have things on the shelf right now with that biz, because I got so tired of fucking people ripping me off.

I even had a sales person take home $1,500 worth of my merchandise off a showroom floor for her bedroom, and tell me about it as if she had the right to "try out" my stuff and see if she liked it. I had to threaten her to pay me, and show up in person to get a check which I went straight to the bank with and cashed.

Unfortunately its not that easy with internet stuff and long distances.
