A question for any joggers

A quick question for any joggers.

I am in training for a charity event consisting of 16k run, 24k bike and 2k row. Jogging has been coming on well and longest run was 14.5k last week, and been doing 4 runs a week with 1 long run each week, however I am finding that when I get to about 7/8k I am getting a pain in the left thigh, that comes and goes and at times is pretty painful. I am managing to zone them out and complete the run but today's run it started about 4k into the run!

It is only 2 weeks to the event and am getting concerned it is going to get worse and affect me doing the charity event.

So anyone any ideas what may cause it or ways to ease it??

Cheers all
Paul

There are a several things it could be. Does it feel like the pain is coming from part of the thigh going to sleep and being numb? Then it may be exertional compartment syndrome - the thighs numbness reason is related to swelling of a group of muscles activated during your physical activity.

It could also be because of blockage in the veins and/or arteries. A build up of lactic acid would cause a burning like sensation. Meralgia paresthetica, which is numbness or pain in the outer thigh not caused by injury to the thigh, but by injury to a nerve that extends from the thigh to the spinal column could also be the issue.

Does it only happen when running?

what kind of stretching are you doing before and after the runs? Get some of those IcyHot pads to stick on the affected area

Make sure you are stretching your IT Band really well. That's one of the most common reasons for injury. Also, make sure that you have the right shows that support your arches.

I run 5 miles 5 days a week and 10 miles 2 days a week, have done for years

Your first error was to zone out the pain, zoning out the pain for Rocky films and for the last mile of a 26mile marathon that you have trained a year for and can have 3 months off afterwards

Pain is your body telling you their is something wrong, you certainly shouldn't ignore it. It almost certainly isn't going away and will probably get worse.

Hit me up on b&b if you want some help, my Mrs is also a qualified sports injury therapist who could give you a clue on whats going on.

Dang, nice job...

I would honestly start with more Water. I'm sure you drink a lot already, I would think about doubling it. For sure if you're getting cramps. Yoga as well, it's extremely good for you, helps heal the mind, body and soul.

Anyway, Water energizes the life energy force of your body and the higher your life energy force the faster your body will repair itself, it will flush the bad crap out of your body faster, you'll last longer while doing things and you'll feel more energized after exercise. Double up and Drink up!
