![]() ![]() I could do without my home phone, but not on any prepaid cell phone that's limited. I use 500+ texts / 500+ minutes a month. Perhaps it's because I'm young with a life.... ![]()

i haven't had a land line in, well, ever (since i started living on my own around 18 years ago). i dropped rogers (the Canadian att arm) about two years ago, the prices were retarded, especially when traveling. so i threw away my blackberry, told them to go fuck themselves, got a pre-paid virgin mobile phone for 20 bucks a month, and an ipod touch for wifi, as you can pretty much find free or unsecured wifi anywhere now. i hate talking on the phone too, obviously, and really hate rogers/att.

Being broke does suck. That's why I'm not going to piss away my money on useless crap I don't need any more, so that I don't end up broke with a shiny fucking phone/game/toy.
But you're free to flush your money any way you see fit champ.

I think it would be a pain to carry around a phone and a iTouch, which would make me combine them if I wanted both, but if you don't use a phone... why pay $80 a month?

![]() I just read this and realized, I probably don't need my smart phone either. It seems I use it more for texting and web browsing than I do for talking. Not once have I gone over 200 minutes in a 1 month period. The wealthy don't stay wealthy by spending money that isn't necessary. Going off the grid is not a bad idea at all. |

I've mentioned this before, but I only used just over 30 minutes on my plan last month. I HATE talking on the phone...but I love being able to email, text, and IM...so it does have it's purpose.
Haven't had a landline in 10 years. |

My second clue was having nearly 4000 rollover minutes with hundreds of them dropping off each month, while even more hundreds got added, increasing the amount every month, forever. Never tapped a single rollover minute in my life. I could have called Kim Jong Il and talked for a month for free. Which led me to the inevitable conclusion: I don't need a regular phone or plan. Ever.

Keep in mind too AMP, that that $50 worth of Prepaid minutes have an expiration date on them. You can't keep them stored and use them forever. |

Pay $200 once at Best Buy. Then free service forever (well until they go out of business) save for about $15 a year for taxes. That's even cheaper although you won't be mobile. Or go with some other VoIP providers and get it for less than $5 a month after buying the equipment. Nice to see someone ditching the consumer "gotta have it all" culture though. About the cell plans most expire the minutes after a couple months. Watch that. You might want to go with something like T-mobile's 1000 minutes for $100 with a 1 year expiration period. |

My old plan was $23 a month for 500 minutes and unlimited everything else. It's obvious why they would want people off such a cheap plan. What you posted is just them dumping an employee discounts (lots of companies offer discounts) on any plans or add-ons under $29 a month. This wouldn't effect me, even if my plan wasn't a grandfathered plan. |

If you need more minutes, you buy a slightly bigger package or you use the phone less. It really wasn't long ago when the majority of people didn't have a cell phone and they got along perfectly fine, without them - emergencies and all.

Your remaining minutes as well as length of service time left are both displayed right on the main screen at all times. Only an idiot could fuck that up.

Sure you can. But I didn't say I used a debit card to buy the phone. I used cash. Someone asked how I pay for plane tickets.... I responded, debit card.

***Update***
I was so excited to finally dump conventional phone companies that I just had to try out my new disposable. I accidentally hit the "Browser" button twice, which deducted $.50 x 2 = 1 minute, then I made a call and burned another 2 minutes! That's 3 just today! ![]()

dude, i live in a million+ dollar home, drive a 911 C4S, have money out my ears, and travel the world. oh, and zero debt. and i will always prefer to save money verses spending it on things i don't require. and yes, i can give you many 'ballers' that will back up my shit. jesus. maybe we should all start wiping our asses with hundred dollar bills, to claim true baller status.

I also started buying firewood last year. You know, to burn in those decorative cutouts they have inside houses with ducting to the roof that people tend to hide with televisions and junk. That saves about $400 / month in gas & electric during the colder part of the year. This season I'm buying whole trees (cut & dried) and splitting the wood myself. Because I feel like it.
Is that also a waste of time? I also fix things around the house myself, and buy the parts & supplies I need from a hardware store. You know, those big buildings where the illegal aliens hang out. Should I just be hiring contractors every time I need to fix some plumbing or the fence? I used to have maids clean every inch of my house on a regular basis, had handymen fixing all forms of random things around the house all the time, pool-boy, landscaper, tree-trimmers.... and hired neighbor kids to walk my dogs... because I used to think like that. Money can literally buy you anything you want. You'll never have to lift a fucking finger. I had all that. Now I clean the house myself and walk my own dogs. Because throwing money at every single facet of life, is not living. And pissing your money down the drain on a piece of techno junk you don't need because you think it makes you a "pimp" or a "baller" in anyone's eyes is the epitome of idiocy. ![]()
