Do you do mainstream?

or do you stick to the adult sector. What have you found to be the biggest difference between the two (other than naked women of course)

I run various small mainstream sites - mostly to give me a break from the norm but the profit is nice too.

Just wondering how many have branched out..or did you come to adult from mainsteam?

there's no difference between mainstream and adult anymore.

The advantage of adult used to be:
some McFlipper could slap up a website and people
would come by themselves because everybody wants xxx.

Meaning it was easy to get traffic > leads > sales.

Nowadays it's just as 'easy' to start a mainstream
project.

Actually.. it's easier to start a mainstream project because
you are not limited to selling pussy.

There's no quick money in porn anymore: if you are settled:
continue doing you business.

If you are new: you might as well think of some new non-adult
concept and you'll have a better chance things work out.

I have a small online shop selling camera-equipment. Have had it for some years now. I donīt promote it actively though, some orders comes in every month and I fill them.

Its mainly for showing to new friends and family, although my best friends know that I am in the adult business. Anyway I donīt want to tell my parents and grandparents what I really do for a living

I'm going from adult into mainstream... sort of. You'll see soon enough. I think you'll all have interest into it, but there's no hot ass or pussy on it although it is directed at the adult industry.

hmm... I think I'm confused myself

I came from main stream to adult. We are starting are first mainstream site, I think one of the big things getting traffic without spending money. On adult sites you can do promopack swaps, link trades, top list, etc. Main stream doesnt work that way, its you want traffic pay me.

Mainstream sites kick butt. You have to have a good concept though and be innovative just like your adult sites. The main difference is there are a lot more avenues open to advertise and promote your mainstream sites in.

Even in the 900 biz, adult pay per call has always been steady, but we made our 7 figure hits with creative mainstream 900 programs.

Bottom line you have to be a good marketer. That's the biggest skill necessary. And mainstream gives you lots of ops to work your stuff.

this is a mystery to me. please tell me how to make money from a
mainstream website. I'm not talking about selling a product online. I'm talking about running a mainstream website, information/entertainment/whatever content, and making money from advertising, no way u can make much money from charging a fee for an information or entertainment website. Mainstream surfers will not pay a subscription like they do for porn sites. I've tried it and it just isn't worth the time BUT this was awhile ago, maybe there's some new revenue streams. Are there popunder ad companies that pay honestly? Optin email companies that pay honestly for email addresses?

As with any business you need to find a niche and work it.
IMO every "unique" adult money making idea has been done.... 10 times over.... and been done by 1,000 different webmasters.

I started out in mainstream then jumped into adult a few years ago. I did pretty well when I started, but over the past year, Ive seen my adult profits decrease while putting in twice the work that I used to.

In the meantime my mainstream site has been improving in terms of sales and profits... without increasing my workload by too much.

I run a website for a retail Hardware company here in Oregon. The competition is sooooo much less than with adult sites. Top Search Engine placement is very easy to come by. I even buy top adwords for like $ .02

I still think that there is money to be made in adult sites...just not like there used to be. Im still plugging away at my adult sites...cause hot chicks are nice to look at.

Ok if you got the following formula it is impossible not to make a million a month.

The speed in what the adult industry rolls out products
The amazing low overhead people in this industry manage to maintain

In the mainstream world people are fucked up with the above, meaning they are getting involved in shit too late, and overspending on everything

Is that why most paysite member sections suck ass?

well about 6 months ago there was a mainstream site for sale. It has a lot of traffic, great domain name etc. I think he was asking 40,000 for it.

So I asked him how much money he was making on it. He very proudly told me $400 or $500 a month. And this was with what he said is a hosting contract he signed years ago that gave him unlimited bandwidth for something like $200 a month. I noticed that many of the files on the site were hotlinked, he said with permission, i asked him if he had a contract for unlimited bandwidth why bother with the hotlinking. Never answered.

But I liked the site and the traffic, i could set it up to show adult ads for viewers older than 18 and other banners for kids. So I offered him 8,000. He was insulted. I told him I was sorry but you can't expect anybody to pay you 15,000 or his asking price of 40,000 for a business that nets 4-500 dollars a month.

I'm torn between both worlds.. But I run my adult business where as I may be a officer in my non adult biz. i have investors, managing partners and so on.. It sometimes is a risk to cross the businesses.. but we all agreed to keep the porn side of it out of picture.. My non adult investors and employees have no idea that I run a adult webmaster program... which is fine by me..
