I'm not american or Mexican but i really dont understand all the fuss over this law. If a copper suspects a person is an illegal immigrant then surely its the poicemans job to determine this? Whats next? letting muggers go free from investigation in case you accidentally inerview an innocent man?

I think there is a big clue in the label illegal immigrant.

Yeah but everyone has rights in America. Even people who aren't legally supposed to be there in the first place, which is the fucked up part.

Border patrol doesn't treat them badly, they give them medical attention, water and food if necessary, they don't put them in jail when they catch them crossing to our side of the border, they just send them back to Mexico.

It's almost to the point where people are getting sued for EVERYTHING just because someone gets offended by it. Hell the high school I went to was run by the students because the parents were so lawsuit happy. It's sad what has become of this country.

CDSmith 08-04-2010 12:32 PM

Some people act like an entire country should just look the other way while thousands from another country enter illegally, with no border checks, no background checks, nothing. Just look the other way, leave them alone, they're not bothering anyone. I'm sure they're all perfectly nice people with only the best intentions, all of them. So what if they cut holes in fences or burrow under them instead of coming here through customs like the rest of us. Economic fallout? Pfffft, who cares.

Amazing. Such ignorance astounds me.

Then why not focus on the gangs? They aren't contributing jack to anyone but themselves, yet we allow gang nonsense to go on every day. I'll tell you why. Because people don't give a fuck. The AZ "law" just gives racists & rednecks a "legal" way to hate on wetbacks. If anyone really gave a shit, they should take a look in their own backyard first. :2 cents:

Now they just need to pass the same laws in all of the states that the illegals are fleeing to.

There are 20 states that are adapting a law similar to ours. I think the Feds will have no choice but to enforce the laws of this country....finally.

Oh...right...never.

Or sue them all just like AZ. Precedent has already been set now. Great use of our tax money.

He goes after people with warrants too for child support, DUI, other criminal stuff.

He was even featured on a reality show where they'd trick people into coming down into a sting operation, then bust them.

It was funny, but like the show "Cops" it was real people getting arrested, for real.

Precedent has been set? I thought things were just on hold?
Similar law is already in effect in Prince William Virginia and after 3 years, That I would call a precedent

"On hold" maybe in the mind of the AZ gov, but what are they gonna do? Appeal to the 9th Circuit up here? They aren't going to win there. I'd say it's pretty well wrapped up.

Watch, this is going all the way to the top, and if we are shot down, the the State will most likely sue the feds for not doing their jobs. The gov has already stated that.

It's amazing that the governor has raised over 6mil in 3 months from donations for the lawsuit...that pretty much speaks how the people feel about illegal immigrants.

[LINKHOTNESS]

Phoenix, Arizona (CNN) -- It was an ethnic twist on an American classic, the kind of thing that some people consider appealing and others frightening. Pinto beans, diced tomatoes, salsa and jalapenos top a hot dog that's grilled to perfection. It's 10 o'clock on a Saturday night at ground zero in the immigration debate. The hot dog vendor, a woman from the Mexican state of Sinaloa, would normally be doing a brisk business. Her cart is across the street from a popular Latino dance club that used to be frequented by Mexican-Americans but is now normally crammed with Mexican immigrants.

No mas.

"The city feels abandoned," the woman tells me in Spanish. "Everyone has left."

It sure looks that way during a drive though the city's predominantly Latino west side, with its abandoned buildings, deserted homes and empty parks. Since April, when Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 to punish illegal immigrants for the sins of the employers who hire them, estimates are that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants have left Arizona for a warmer climate in Utah, Colorado, Texas or New Mexico.

Last week, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton struck down four of the most grotesque and illogical parts of the law, including the requirement that local police attempt to determine the immigration status of individuals they suspect of being in the country illegally and language making it a crime to solicit work. They should have gone back to Mexico, but they'd already put down roots in Phoenix, where the husband could earn at least 10 times what he could make in Mexico. We talked about how some conservatives insist that illegal immigrants take jobs from U.S. workers:

"They're spoiled. They think it's easy to come to the United States legally, and they speak from ignorance."

You've heard how Arizona tried to empower local police to arrest gardeners and housekeepers to crack down on Mexican drug dealers. Baloney. That's just how the state's anti-immigrant efforts are packaged for public consumption. What are nativists supposed to do? Convince Arizonans that the nannies they give their babies to every day are dangerous, that the gardeners to whom they volunteer their security code are a threat. You need drug dealers in this dialogue. Who else are people going to be afraid of?

Not a hot dog vendor. Think about where that woman was from -- Sinaloa. That state is the capital of the Mexican drug trafficking industry. It's quite simple. If you're from Sinaloa and you sell drugs, you can live a luxurious life in Mexico. If you sell hot dogs, you work long, hot nights in the desert. Arizonans are ginning up fear of one to rid their state of the other.

:2 cents: Arizona: What a nice place to live. :1orglaugh

Sounds like good news. :thumbsup

When I worked private security there, I was shot at many times. The little guard shack that was there was full of bullet holes. They came from across the street, where legal AZ residents lived. Different post, white guys (legal residents) were constantly coming home drunk, beating up their wives & girlfriends, causing trouble of all sorts.... never once had a problem with an illegal or even a hispanic at all. It was always the fucking white dudes.

I think you know the answer, if you don't go look it up.

They finally getting tougher on the businesses who hire these people. I think they should be tougher, like....

Lose your lic to do biz here to include your contractors lic
confiscate all company property like vehicles and all assets
fines per illegal immigrant that is hired.

That would fix the problem.

There will be tougher laws to come that will include employers....you can count on it.

1. Trillions? Really? I think you are confusing illegal aliens with the US Government & Wall Street.
2. Criminals didn't have to worry about getting caught in the past? Only the unconstitutional AZ law can save us from ourselves & all the evildoers now?

Typical pot smoking liberal response. Because the U.S. Government and Wall street spend it, the enormous strain incurred by illegals is okay. :error :1orglaugh

No, they didn't. They were running around freely with little to no consequences. If they got deported they would be back in a week. This new law was designed to allow local law enforcement to actually DETAIN them for breaking the law. Why is it you think all the illegals are packing up and leaving? Because it would be totally ineffective?

It's not the legal immigrants who give a shit. Why? Maybe because they speak English, they have drivers licenses and they likely would never be asked to prove their status in this country. It's the illegal CRIMINALS who would be most effected by this law that are fleeing.

As soon as they set foot on Mexican soil, there is nothing to stop them from coming right back to AZ. The "law" is ineffective and has been deemed unconstitutional by a judge.

How's that for a "counter"? :)

He does. He had a huge campaign on arresting deadbeat dads... It was either on Mothers day or Fathers day each year his deputies would go around arresting people with back owed support. He also has a website you can see who owes, how much, and get their warrant info.

The illegal thing is his new bag, and he's going to milk it until nobody talks about it anymore.

Like Sheriff Joe stated, regardless of the judge's decision, there are many other laws they can get them on that were not part of the the new law and he will continue doing his job.

So he will still continue to enforce Federal law, which is what he has been doing for years.

"Hows that for enforcing the law"?
