The state of online poker

So what's the deal with online poker? Has it become over-run with scammers? One side seems to say yes, the other no. I still have a balance over at Party Poker and recently felt like playing in a tournament.

Has online poker seen it's best days?

considering how the U.S. is about to jump back into the fold, i would say we are about to hit the renaissance period of poker.

If I had any self control I'd be a rich gambler. But I always make huge ridiculous bets after a run to ruin it all. I get greedy.

As for partypoker, I've heard most of the people in a room know each other, or may in fact be the same person. Though given the amount of rooms, I guess that can't be true for all of them.

US is going to allow online gambling again? is there some legal movement to support this or is this just a speculation based on PP's gambling policy reconsideration news?

A couple sites have already been busted, the amount of miracle hands you run into every time you play are disgusting, and until there are some serious legal controls and oversight placed on the industry I won't be playing again.

Dig, I remember when you folded for good. That was quite some time ago. I take it you still feel the same.

Man, I know this is a huge urban legend but the decks are fine in online poker. This has been verifed over and over by outside sources comparing millions and millions of poker hands on any site that matters. The ones that were busted had nothing to do with the deck being wrong.

i agree.. the reputable places have no gain by getting a mass exodus of players...

with that being said, are there tables with teams playing? you bet..

years ago i was going to set up a poker room that played online with the majority playing on the same team..

the numbers didnt work, but with offshore labor at an all time low and this gambling bill looking like it will pass, it might be a good time to re visit that model..

I hope they lift the US ban soon. Its gotten so frustrating trying to make a US deposit, I've all but given up. Had one of my bank accounts closed a couple months ago for making echeck deposits to PokerStars.

It isn't hard to spot teams. The problem most players have is they play WAY too many hands... In a live event they might pride themselves in playing 1 in 15 hands or more.. Then they go online and the next thing you know they are playing 1 in 5... Then complain when miracles don't go their way and complain once again when a miracle happens and they didn't get a bad beat.

Playing 1 in 5 hands works great, on a 6 handed table. If you are a gambletard but play well after the flop then move over to 6 max and enjoy the ride.

I play 15-25% on 6-way, depending on how the rest of the table is playing.

Whining about other players catching miracle hands is just that... whining.

I hover around the same and even a bit higher on the lower limits. If I'm on the right table I will play 100% of unraised hands and about 60% of raised hands and have been a net winner. This only works on the lower limits, I've yet to see a table that good on the higher ones.

I do miss Party Poker though, hoping for a swift return.

Yeah bad beats suck, though folding hands that would've been bad beats for someone else ain't so hot either. Well when there was reason for you not to fold, the ones where it was obvious to fold I wouldn't worry too much about.

I think you can be aggressive with your betting as long as you have a plan. At least in non tournament play. I've gone on runs where I lost 3 straight times and the table lost enough respect for me that I ended up getting some nice pots that put me over the top.

Having said that, no I wouldn't make it a career, as my attention span isn't there for it.

When I play I try and keep at under 15% for 9 man table and under 20 for 6 man.

So what's you guy's take on revshare or "PPS" for online poker? Both full tilt and pokerstars give 20-30% rev. I'm thinking since the PPS requires for people to deposit real money and accumulate 250 FPP's I might as well go revshare.

I didn't start promoting poker until right before they got booted from the USA so I quit pushing it soon after. However, I've made a shitload per signup on revshare. One signup made me $100 per month for over 2 years, most I didn't even track separately.

I did some many years ago for full tilt and used PPS, they had some promo and I got $150 per member without them accumulating any points just a $50 deposit was needed. If I'm to try poker again I'll go revshare. It's quite similar to adult cams as I see It.

I would imagine that poker is much better on average. I promoted some regular casinos at one point for $75 PPS or something. You could still see player stats and I would have made about $5000 over the first 3 months vs the $450 I got. I quit looking after that.

I don't care if it's the decks being wrong or rogue employees. When my preflop KK runs into preflop AA about 40% of the time, something's not right lol... I don't know why people are always trying to defend these sites. There's no question they cheat. They've already been CAUGHT cheating. IMHO, the 'clean' ones just haven't been caught yet.

I'm defending them because you are completely wrong. You do realize that programs that monitor every single hand you play have been out for years and years. Do you really think people that take poker seriously haven't studied the data to know that the sites are legit? This is old news.

People being caught cheating by other means is irrelevant. If they rigged the decks (for what reason I can't even fathom) it would be caught almost immediately by the collective group of thousands of people that keep histories of everything. In fact, the cheaters that were caught doing other stuff were caught in this manner and last I checked they had no involvement in the actual site, just used master accounts that were in legacy code.

Yea, I'm pretty sure the bigger sites are clean. The biggest problem now day's is probably people sitting at the same table and keeping contact and team playing the best hand which gives an edge.
