No offense hoss, because I enjoy your posts and respect your experience but you simply need to ask around, and do better research. Those numbers do not match with what real people are saying.
I actually will sign up to surfer forums, and ask around to get people's feelings. Or my personal favorite, the devil's advocate to tease out some feedback. I ask around here locally. I ask around on social networks. I do a lot of actual research, not just shadow boxing or parroting what I read on adult boards.
Based on what I have come across, and what people tell me directly, that is what forms my opinion. I do not buy into the board, and trade hype. I simply conduct my own Q&A with people as time allows and get some feedback.
Anyway, we'll just agree to disagree. Back toe business.Last edited by Barefootsies; 07-13-2010, 10:48 PM.Comment

What exactly are we disagreeing on. Everything you posted above is to tell me that you did a lot of homework and you think I am just an idiot and have no basis for what I think (basically).
But you didn't tell me what it is that you discovered with all of your market research. What part am I wrong on... that people are now jerking off on facebook to non naked pictures or that people are just jerking off less world wide because of spending too much time on social networking sites to be able to fit in yank it time.
Please clarify.
(PS I will give you this, if your niche is showing bare feet, well then yeah you screwed because that is allowed content on social networking sites, however nudity is not. So the rest of us are fine.)Last edited by will76; 07-13-2010, 10:56 PM.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

Percentage about social sites/networks, and the increased number of sites on the net competing for the limited surfers time spent online and it's effect on porn sales.
I said no such thing. I think no such thing. Maybe try decaf tomorrow?Comment

Ok, then explain to me exactly HOW people spending more time on social networking sites now vs how much time they spent on them 5 years ago affects porn sales.
Come on, don't stop 1/2 way, lets walk through the logic all the way. You are saying that social network sites are cutting into porn sales because people are spending a lot more time on them. Ok... so...... what does that mean. that
A. more time on social networking sites = less time on porn sites?
B. That more time on social networking sites = people jerking off less?
C. People are jerking off more on facebook instead of going to porn sites to jerk off.
you can't just disagree with my thoughts (percentage) and not tell me why. Especially after you have done so much research on the topic, please explain WHY i am wrong, not just that I am wrong and uninformed.
btw, not a coffee drinker, but when you say this " I actually will sign up to surfer forums, and ask around to get people's feelings. Or my personal favorite, the devil's advocate to tease out some feedback. I ask around here locally. I ask around on social networks. I do a lot of actual research, not just shadow boxing or parroting what I read on adult boards." I take that as implication that you feel your opinion is qualified and mine is not.
Anyway I digress, so please explain to me the A,B,C choices above or add D if I missed something.Last edited by will76; 07-14-2010, 12:39 AM.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

You just listed 3 or 4 of the shittiest *entertainers* on the planet. How they managed to make a living out of peddling their shitty music is amazing.
The fact they are having to cancel concerts due their music sucking nuts isn't really anything to do with people falling on hard times.
With RE to the OP :
Like always - key is to have unique content. I personally find that solo girl sites are what converts the best still. The lesser known the better (usually the type of stuff that isn't on tubes yet).
When people can't get it free - they will pay............................
That's why we are still in business. We offer rare unique content.
Solo girls and rare niches will always sell. I think when a man falls in love with a certain woman online (or set of twins ;) He will PAY to see her naked.
Generic run of the mill porn, that you can see on any tube site simply doesn't sell as well... and in the coming years, forget it. Doesn't take a math genious to crunch the numbers.Last edited by AlphaSky; 07-14-2010, 02:35 AM.Comment

To those who think the downturn is due only or mostly to the economic decline.
Good luck with your theory, hope you will last out till the recovery and pray that customers lost during the depression will return. I've worked in this business for over 30 years and through many recessions, we used to be immune to them. Plus the downturn happened before the recession, it just made it worse.
To those who blame free porn.
This industry spends way more on getting free porn in front of customers. And a lot less on the product we sell. No other industry spends more money on discouraging buyers than it does on keeping them.
What has the industry done to make the product it sells more attractive to buyers?
It used HD cameras when they become available. Besides that few sites have done anything to improve the product. Some have grown in size and some just churned out new sites of the same type as 1,000s of other sites.
Today we compete with Tube sites for the customers money, yes Tube sites have to sell to survive, and yet paysites are still stuck in the format they were 10 years ago. Still just a place to download videos. Why would anyone pay to download videos when they can get them for free. And why has the industry not adapted to the situation?
You have to adapt to survive and this industry has not.
And if paysites can't deliver a better product for $30 a month than Tube sites or social networking sites, then who's to blame the customer for turning his back on us.Comment

and may be because we dont have any new excitng products coming soon. I thought that flash would be in use widely back in 2005 and it never happened, mostly we try selling to older 640 resolution when its time to move on to HD only on demand.

You do understand that even "rare niche" content makes it onto tube sites. That it is just as easy to steal a twin video as it is a solo video? You miss the point and the problem by a thousands miles. Sure twin content has less competition from OTHER PAY SITES, but it will just as easy end up on tube sites where your shit will be given away for free just like everyone's shit. "Rare" content or not. does not matter, only difference is if you have a small amount of members it might take longer for your content to make it to the tube site, but it will you can count on it.

How you 'take it' on a personal level is not my concern.
I have already explained my intentions, and you keep going on about me thinking this, or that, like I am better than you or more right. Your a turd, and I'm the king. None of which I was saying. I already explained the feedback based on my own research of asking people directly, online and off, about their porn surfing habits and online time.
I already explained how I came to my conclusions, or opinions. I qualified my opinion based on those facts. I am not going to keep repeating myself, nor am I going to fight with you. If you want to be right that badly about your opinion, then fine.
You're right, I am wrong.
There. That should now make you happy, you won. The thread can now continue with Paul, and the rest of your discussion on the topic. I frankly do not care enough to argue about it. Carry on.

You have done a lot of market research and believe that more time being spent on social networking sites has cause there to be a significant drop in porn membership sales. This is your theory. I told you I don't believe it and i stated my thoughts why. All you keep telling me is that you disagree and you have your reasons why. But simple saying " people are spending more time on facebook" is not a reason. It is a fact. People are spending more time on facebook, now explain to me HOW people spending more time on facebook is affecting porn site sales. Are you saying that people are replacing their porn surfing time with facebook time, and therefore are horny / jerking off less? are you saying that people are now jerking off to content on facebook vs porn sites.
I replied to your post with my thoughts, you replied back saying you disagreed and have done a lot of research. I have heard this same belief (I can't call it an argument because no one has yet to provide details to support the "more time on facebook = less porn sales), but I look forward to someone such as yourself who has researched this to help educate me more on the topic. Why are tube sites not closing? How much overhead does a tube site have? let's see.... content: free. traffic: free (most of it for most of them). What the hell do they pay for, bandwidth which is pennies on the dollars these days. They simply don't have to do a lot of sales to profit because they simply do not have a lot of overhead.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

I usually only see a few posts in threads like this, that acutally make sense.
A few of the most common mistakes webmasters make are:
1. 'my friend told me he will never buy porn anymore since he found redtube/porntube etc'
Not true. Your friend will get bored after a while because of the lower quality flv
clips with lots of ads flooding around the site. Also most people like your friend is looking for a
particular niche. After a while he will still join a site if he can't find a torrent of the movie.
And even if he finds a torrent, he might gets annoyed by the low download speed.
2. 'People don't have money to spend'
Might be true for a part. But people still buy magazines, clothes, food and even car-sales are going up again.
People still spend money on porn if you offer something they really likeComment
-
The recession has not helped any of us. But it still does not explain the decline we're suffering. Those who think it does had better do some research. Good points. Porn performers were never chosen for their ability to act. They are chosen for their ability in males to get wood, keep it, fuck as directed, cum on cue and look good. The last part did not always apply.I'd gladly pay for a porn video, if there was one fucking porn video on the planet worth watching. All these years and the talent still can't act, the producers don't have a fucking clue what people want to see and the morons running adult sites think free is the fucking answer. Which lesbian I'm watching is not that fucking important.
For females it was just that they would perform in front of a camera.
So why do so many producers today allow them to act out scenes and faking everything?
Getting a girl today to reveal who she really is, to have a real orgasm and fun and just being herself is a nightmare. The main reason is over production, limited skills of the director and budgets all often leading to a conveyor belt approach to porn. The model became the power in the shoot, if you don't like what she does she walks and goes work for those who will accept what she does.
This leads to a dumbing down of product and eventually to a resistance to buy.
My point exactly. The adaptation of the product by the publishers has been get more for the same price or less. It's tough for content producers to adapt and innovate when their prices were falling. Also some of the producers were still learning how to shoot anything let alone porn a few years back. Just repeating the same mistakes the Video side of the industry made.Comment

Maybe Tube site viewers don't prize HD content as much as we do. It obviously does not bother them enough to compete with Tubes for their traffic.
As for quality content, HD does not supply that in porn. It supplies a more crisper video that will show up the mistakes as well as the good points. Quality porn is about what's in front of the lens not behind it.

IMO paysites need to be more than a place to download videos. Tubes give that away for free. To get customers back you need to offer them better than what's free.Last edited by Paul Markham; 07-16-2010, 06:28 AM.Comment

Buying porn is mostly about affordability. Sorry to disappoint all you eggheads. If a guy is horny and has a cc... boom - sale. Just get to him.
Why do you think FUCK SUCK TITS and PUSSY sell? It's what is on the horny mind. Think like a horny mind & get money. Do it with a little bit of class.... and get the high end credit card rebill money. Bypass the trash, but suck up all the crumbs.
And you cannot tell me it's not about luck. A huge amount of luck is involved,,,, But you must put the product in front of the customer. Corner good keywords, write compelling content, put hot pics in front of him and tell him where to get the rest.
And you will eventually get sales, and keep hitting. Always keep hitting and tweaking. No sales... change text, pics, vids, experiment. Cuz, no matter what the pros tell you, they did the same thing to get where they are.SIG TO CUMComment
