The shit (oil) is about to hit the fan

We're about to see the first tropical storm hit the Gulf. This is going to be a very active season for sure.

The Huffington Post said there was an earthquake on June 23 in Toronto, but I was walking in Toronto and I did not feel any earthquake.

You say that like it can't be done

Weather is manipulated again for snow

Beijing's unusually heavy snow, which brought a traffic paralysis to the capital yesterday, again highlighted the controversial use of weather modification.

They learned it from us.

They don't really need to make hurricanes to occur during hurricane season. But what you can do is cause an oil spill and do a bit of cloud seeding to make it worse.

put in my phonecall this morning to try and get on a boat and take my hazmat class to get involved in helping with the spill, it is really affecting us locally - cant sit back and watch anymore. Time to put aside personal bullshit and pitch in and not just watch... will be spending some long days out on the water if all goes well...

China. ha ha. very funny

Everyone knows Osama Bin Laden is doing it from his base in Iran, along with help from Saddam hussein. Yeah you heard it, s. Hussein is still alive. They caught/executed his body double but the real Hussein escaped to Iran with Bin Laden. Right now, they are plotting the destruction of our ecosystem while we waste time on sanctions.

The big thing is that everytime a storm comes through, the boats capturing oil HAVE TO leave the area, leaving the uncut well to leak completely unrestricted for several days.

It will likely go right over the Yucatan and once it hits the warm Gulf waters no one knows where it will go. It could even upgrade to a hurricane and slam into Texas or LA. It could go into Mexico and never hit the Gulf. These storms have a mind of their own.

They could work with hazmat suits and oxygen masks but BP doesn't want it to seem as though the air is dangerous. Much like when cleaning up after 9-11 and they said the air was ok. (even though the buildings were condemned for asbestos) Now most of the workers are dead or dying from one related illness or another.

i think i'll hold out for information prior to making a conclusion on whether or not that storm will make it to the gulf.

the oil rain video is bunk.

I actually find the models to be highly accurate, and aren't wrong very much. I remember the models showing katrina coming to new orleans when it was still in the atlantic.

Every year they seem to get better.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it bunk, but it is currently "unproven"

Quote:
An unknown variable on the overall cycle is the introduction of BP's dispersant of choice, Corexit 9500, which may be either helping or hurting the degree of evaporation. Dispersants break up the natural surface tension in oil, sending small droplets into the water column and reducing the surface area which may evaporate, however it also changes the chemistry of the oil which remains on the surface. We have yet to find any science on the subject of the evaporation rates of these compounds or their likelihood to come back down as contaminated rain.

yeah, i read that article earlier this morning when i was looking into this story, as i read it, the article states that oil could possible lose volume & evaporate, that's a far cry from it raining oil inland.

epa also says no. at this point, let's just focus on containing the gusher and not jumping to conclusions about oil rain and devastating hurricanes, IMO.

Do hurricanes work on evaporation? Or do they suck things up like a huge tornado?

not sure what you are driving at, if i recall correctly they do act like a vacuum right?

but again, not sure what you are driving at. if there's a hurricane in the gulf it will be a nightmare scenario x10000000. especially due to the temps this year. i'm the sort to wait until more info is available. what's the point otherwise? there's nothing we can do except focus on stopping the god damn gusher.

Not really driving at anything, except the possibility of oil being carried far inland. I think it is just like a huge tornado if you look at it from the side.

I don't know whats gonna happen.. I probaby wont be going back to new orleans for a while. I've never seen the temps in the atlantic and gulf this high this early since I been following storms.

after Katrina around here people had problems growing things like tomatoes from all the salty water it brought inland. It happens from what I have heard.

I understand what you're saying but that is kind of the same attitude that got us into this mess. You have to think ahead of the disaster, not sit around and wait to see what happens. Storms this season are inevitable, it makes sense to prepare NOW. Whatever that is....

I wonder if the dispersant atomized the oil enough that it can get picked up into rain clouds.

i never said don't prepare, they are prepared. it takes 120 hours for them to clear out the containment vessels etc, there's nothing else they can do. are they going to aqnchor 3000 miles of boom? round up all the animals? shut off the oil? what?

to categorize my view as an attitude that got us into this mess is ridiculous and assuming.

feel free to list 1 thing, just 1, that they could do today that would contain more oil and/or prepare for a hurricane such that it would limit the damage.

Well for one not blindly ignoring that toxic rain is a possibility and protecting crops and marshes inland that are not already covered in oil.

No no no, gvt made it happen on purpose: it's to convince you that ecology (the new communism) is good for you and that consumerism (and China) is now a bad thing (anyway there is no money left, so you have to think so).
More China will become powerful, and more you have to think that environMENTALISM is good.

Repeat with me...

"More China ... and more ... is good for me!"

feel free to come up with a way to do those things because as it stands, there ain't.

maybe we can get a big ass plastic tarp and cover the south with it. nail it down real good with some stakes.

sarcasm aside, the part you are missing is there is no contingency plan. there is nothing better available to sop up the oil than what is happening now. put every amercian and brit in a hazmat suit and sponge up the gulf coast and that still wouldn't stop things.

there wasn't a plan in place in case of a gusher and there certainly isn't for a gusher + hurricane. that IS the problem. can't just snap your fingers and make it so. even in light of a storm.

yeah man I agree... I didn't claim to have all the answers. The thing that bothers me is we are still using the same failed tactics from 30+ years ago. I feel we are smarter than this...
