Anybody had any experience on whether starting to redirect mobile traffic affects SE rankings?

So far we haven't heard anything that would suggest it hurts your rankings. We have some guys redirecting some of their big sites dependant on google traffic with us, and they are pretty happy with results.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it is best to divert google mobile traffic to a 'mobile page' on the same domain and then have ads or divert straight to a mobile paysite?

I also haven't noticed any google penalties for any kind of mobile traffic redirect.

Search some larger terms on google, highly competitive, and check the source code of the domains, many in the top spots are redirecting mobile.

I would say there is no penalty, or flags created at this point.

It's best to divert it to a subdomain so you don't hurt your natural SE rankings on your site.

You can also add a disclaimer in your code to Google to let them know you are re-directing your mobile traffic.

Most mobile programs, including TopBucks, can make a whitelabel for you and bind it to a subdomain of your site. Best to use is usually mobile.sitename.com or m.sitename.com

it doesnt hurt rankings YET, best way is to redirect to a mobile version of your site and not to use a whitelabel.

It doesnt matter at all, point.

Ive been managing a site that had at least 100k se traffic daily, happily redirecting it, without noticing even a 1 position drop in the se's.

Creating the mobile version of your website can be done within a white label as soon as the white label is proposing a URL customization.
There it’s not hurting your SE it’s a benefit for it.

Have a few sites with 90% search engine traffic on them. They are redirecting all mobile traffic straight to a sponsor and their program. Nothing to do with my site at all. And I continue to maintain all my important keywords and positions for them. So right now I don't see it, but I'm sure Google will do something about people like me who are redirecting from one site to a completely different site. So sooner or later, I guess it's going ot hurt somewhere. Until I start to see any drops, I do far to ok to change things.

You will probably see a drop in your visitor numbers in Analytics, depending on when you load certain things. With the redirect I'm using, I couldn't load Analytics first and then redirect them, so right now the only count I have is that one of the sponsor. I have no own way of knowing if it's accurate or not.

We should anticipate and create the mobile version of your website before Google react :-)
