Do ethernet cables just go bad?

I bought a brand new heavy duty 50ft ethernet cable last week and it's already stopped working.

It hasn't been bent, cut, or anything it's brand new.

Do these things just stop working for no reason?

It's hard enough keeping Brighthouses shitty wireless router online now I have to worry about cables failing wtf..

Sounds like you bought a defective cable, would just return it and buy from another mfg.

It can happen if the cable had problems to begin with - i.e. bad connections on the male adapters

considering its 0 or 1 passing through the cable its pretty hard for them to go bad. No they don't go bad unless the contacts get corroded/etc which doesn't happen very often.

More often than none it just might be a bad cable and the crc errors/etc are just stacking up on the interfaces and finally the box gives up due to errors. crc errors are due to a poor cable etc which if its a poorly constructed cable can just go tits up after a while.

replace it.

If they don't crimp the ends on correctly, there could be bad contacts. Return the cable and get another one.

No they do not go bad, you just have one that was made poorly, most likely as the others said it's a bad crimp, the ends need to be cut off and re-tipped

qft it's almost ALWAYS the connector, not the wires themselves... If you have a lot of computers / ip devices I recommend just buying a spool of CAT6, a crimper, and a bag of connectors... sooooo handy.

Yeah bad cable, but in the meantime, try switching the ends.
