Members retention question

Anybody know how long the average converted trial member stays vs. somebody who buys a full membership. Does the person who buys a trial and then converts to a full membership stay longer than somebody who just straight out buys the monthly recurring membership? I'm doing some complicated math and I need a ratio between the two or some sort of estimate.

Look at teencash numbers and compare? I have no paysites so I can't say but I'd guess if the surfer joined through a trial and then renewed for a full month he is more likely to stay the next month than someone who stright up bought the full month.

I can't seem to get the numbers out of nats. I can get overall numbers but not broken down by signup option.

It really depends on the content on the site and how often it's updated. If you have good content and it's constantly updated, it won't matter because customers will stay on and continue their membership regardless of how they initially joined the site

Its hard to get true stats because members do not always keep their memberships constant. They often will take breaks but come back later.

True dat. There are actually a couple of different types of members typically.

Those who remain constant for 2+ months/years, those who hop back every 1-3 months, and those who sign up and cancel immediately, rape your site, and then do a charge back.

Geez, i'd say there would be a couple of factors determining that. How much content they offer? how often it's updated? the methods you're using to advertise the site to get traffic/sign ups, etc etc etc... Don't laugh, but before I try out an affiliate program, I actually sign up as a member and check it out first. If it isn't something I would like, I simply cancel my membership and don't promote it.

Reporting Admin > Retention Reports
Breakdown by Join Option

For us, trials>full and full membership retain about the same.

You can thank me for that great, nifty breakdown of Join Option. =)

I had that created when we were doing VOD and had 12 pricing options, I could never tell which performed the best.

The Retention Reports can be a little weird though, I don't know much about V4 for NATS though. You can also do it through site stats and break down by join option.

1.
if 3+5+7+.........+n terms/ 5+8+11+............+10 terms =7

the value of n is
a) 35 b) 36 c) 37 d) 40

2. if A,B,C are the points z1,z2,z3 ant the angles B and C are each pie- alpha/2
then
(z2-z3)^2 = 4(z3-z1)(z1-z2) sin^2 alpha/2

So Titan, now that you have the info. What's the answer with teencash's numbers? Curious.

This doesn't appear to be in Nats3. I went to admin reports/retention and there was no option to breakdown by join option. I'm try to put in more accurate numbers to solve this equation I created:

=((B2*E2*29.95*C2)+(1*(1-B2)*C2)+((1-C2)*(D2*24.95)))*(1-G2)+H2-25

True.

The driving force is the wishes of the consumer. Lots of people don't want to sign up for a month, because they know they won't use it or they've joined other sites that were not worth a 30 day stay. What will happen is your ratio will improve.

Retention is down to whether the site is worth staying in. How many videos does it have, what's the range of the content (content shot by one person gets repetitive no matter how many times you update it looks the same), the niche and the number of competing sites on the Net (the customer knows their are 100s of other sites offering the same niche and style of content).

It's 2010 and the customer is far more knowing and demanding than 10 years ago.

If you own your own merch account, you get a peek under the hood as to why retention is down.

A small part of it is people canceling, not much different than say 3 years ago.

The people's card are being rejected by the banks at a much much higher rate. No amount of content or razzle dazzle will fix that.
