:mad Fuckers at register.com

Never been a fan of that registrar, but I have some domains sitting there which I won on snapnames auctions and as they're close to expiration date I wanted to transfer them to moniker.

Now when I wanted to get auth codes for those domains, they make you fill a form with questions why are you moving the domains from them and you have to wait for them to approve your request for auth codes.

As per ICANN rules, "The registrar must provide you with the Auth-Info code within 5 calendar days of your request."

I had a similar problem with another registrar that didnt want to provide me with the authorization code, I gave them 24hrs. to reply with the code or I was gonna contact ICANN... a few hrs later I had the code and transferred the name out.

I don't see how they survive when they charge so much for domains. Sure, you can call them and beg them to lower the price of your renewals and they will, but they still won't drop them down to match namecheap prices.

I know nothing's perfect.

When I receive the codes I am moving the domains from them anyway.

However it's stupid that they don't provide the code right away when you request it.

This is just another heads up to other people to avoid register.com.

Not to mention their their prices too... with the discount, they charge $20/yr for .com.

I am used to this procedure:

I need an auth code for a domain and I click where it says "Get auth code" and I get it.

Never had to make a phone call or anything more complicated than the procedure above to get it...

:D I always wonder how they survive with prices 35$ per .com domain + 11$ for privacy... For this price I could get 5 domains with namecheap ;)

..because most companies only owe a few names and they aren't price sensitive shoppers.

I hate register.com too. A long time ago I wanted to sell a domain and could not get the auth codes. This was in 2001 I think. I called them up and they wanted $500 to transfer the domain out of their registrar. I let that domain expire and have not done business with them since.

that's just the beginning, in 3 days they will reply that they can't send you auth codes because of security reasons, bluh bluh, so you have to call them wait an hour on hold, etc.. good times
