Obviously turning the guy into a monster might make it easier to cope with.
But the letter doesn't really read like that. Sounds like he mostly blames himself and had just had enough. Which is still a pussy thing to do anyway, but who knows what it's like with depression. The way she ended it isn't great though, if he really was in a fragile state. Leaving a 'dear john' letter after 20 years together, then avoiding contact. Instead of trying to work things out.. He probably thought she was cheating on him. |

My best friend committed suicide and left a 5 page suicide note. My friends not was very thought out and well written. He even left Arm & Hammer boxes in the fridge so the apartment wouldnt smell while he was dead and until someone found him.
It must have taken my friend days to write it, so it was creepy knowing I was talking to him on the phone while he was thinking of doing this and gave no clue. theres absolutely nothing anyone could have done. He felt responsible for it and even said his overactive brain is not at rest. He's just saying he wanted to leave her things to help her take care of herself. remember, he was very depressed when he was writing that letter. My friend left a note to someone else to "Go get him" on a mutual enemy. We threw it away. he wasnt in his right mind. |

The best thing you can do for her is get her into therapy. After that many years of emotional abuse and an end like this she needs someone to talk to, and I would guess a couple of years of professional therapy are in order.
