Do sponsors have a 'sandbox'?

I've seen this happen quite a few times. I "turn on the traffic" for a new sponsor, or an old sponsor that I didn't send a lot of traffic to before. At first the signups and hitting right away. And then they stop. Most of the time they return after a few days. I've had a couple that never returned lol

So are you guys flagging new, unexpected sellers? Or what? Can you turn off the shave a little sooner?

That is why it is important to control your traffic, choose good sponsors & have a contact at said affiliate programs.

agreed and i have a nice custom system that pretty much allows me to swap out/drop any sponsor at any time. but this is when i first start sending joins. after some time the program 'seems' to start converting again. and since i've seen this pattern more than once it makes me wonder if this is a manual action. having a contact isnt a bad idea though...

it's non-ccbill ones. i dont know why they can't or wouldn't do that. i could see where a tool like that would no only make sense, but would help to stop fake joins and spammers. if i sent 5 uniq/day last month and then this month i send 500 uniq/day i can understand how that would be considered a red flag.

Of course they can do that, hit them up with your issues or move your traffic.

Yeah I dealt with one of those third party affiliate softwares as a super administrator and you can pretty much set any criteria you want to filter out what's supposed to be a red flag PLUS you can always play with things manually, assign / de-assign affiliate, subafilliate etc.

I was actually picking a few sponsors recently and besides them having halfway decent sites it was the gut feeling and inside info that mattered the most.

Well maybe the problem is your traffic? If you suddenly change banners, it's new for your bookmarkers first few days, so you see increase in ratios. After few days, everyone already saw & visited them, that's why nobody's buying anymore?

Just guessing

nah not really. that is possible though so you have a point. but i play the SEO game so the significant majority of visitors are brand new

It sounds more like reverse shaving than anything else. Adding in phantom sales to keep you sending traffic to hit the minimum payout.

+1 Exactly.

In nats you CAN NOT shave but you absolutely can reverse shave. I dont think many affiliates really understand this but it happens alot more then you think.

I have actually heard theories about this for a long time. There are some that believe some sponsors will give you some free signups when you join and send some traffic to entice you to keep sending.

For example. You signup and send a sponsor 2K hits. If you only get 1-2 signups (depending on the traffic source) you might decide it is not good enough and move on. so the sponsor "credits" you a few sales without telling you. Now you have 3-4 signups and you might continue using them.

I have never seen proof of this happening nor have I ever heard any sponsor admit that they have done this, but it is a rumor that has gone around for years.

It's not exactly new lol. Countless mentions about it here over the years. Generally don't hear anyone complaining about getting more sales though.

yeah the whole "reverse shaving/phantom signups" is also something i've come to suspect & accept. i have a few sponsors where i have had the same exact amount of conversions for each of several pay periods. one of these sponsors it would not surprise me at all if they were doing such a thing. i look at my epass and lol at the same amount every payout. sure it MAY be a coincidence, but come on...

reminds me of a thread around here where the point was brought up that $/unique was the main number to look at to decide what sponsors are worth your time/traffic, regardless of shaving (or 'reverse shaving' lol)

while i'm sure there's no "shave button" in nats, there's a bunch of ways you could shave 'around' any billing system
