What Would You Use...?

Hello,

When you want to register a domain,
but the ".com" is already registred by somebody else,
would you go with the ".net" or just use hyphens ?

example: "SuperBigSite.com", do you just register "SuperBigSite.net"
or you prefer to use hyphens so we get : "Super-Big-Site.com"

Let me hear your thought about it.

Completely depends on the purpose of the site. If it's going to be a quality site that you want people to remember and come back to, choose a different name so you can get the com. If it's a feeder site of any variety, doesn't really matter. Get the cheapest domain you can get.

What about the SE's, don;t they love a domain with hyphens a bit more ?
(Just a thought)

I'd consider re-arranging the words and see if it still "reads" ok.

Thanks all, for contributing.

Emma, what has Sedo to do with this if i may ask? Don't get it.

Let me a litle bit more clear, well at least i try.

Lets say a sponsors has registred "SuperBigSite.com" and running a paysite on this domain.
But sponsor agreed to take the same domain, just a other .tld, or use hyphens.
(For promoting their paysite "SuperBigSite.com"

Example : Sponsor has paysite "SuperBigSite.com"
would it be better to register :

1. SuperBigSite.net
2. Super-Big-Site.com
3. Or ?

What you guys think...

Option 1 would be easier to remember,
ok might lose traffic to the ".com" version of it.
It's a risk you have to accept i guess.

Option 2 is a hell for a surfer to remember, but SE's might pick it up better.

by sedo.com, they mean purchase a domain that's listed for sale on sedo.com.

as far as the hyphens go, google won't penalize you for the hyphen.

Personally I would choose another .com domain

That could be a option yeah,

and the "net" version of "paysite333.com"

A totally different name, hmzz dunno cos i just wanted to do a header redirect.

a couple reasons, branding don't work, people not remembering the hyphen so visiting the wrong domain, the person who owns the domain without the hyphen can make issues for you...saying you are using his domain name in bad faith. do I need to tell you 10 more reasons.
