The Pacific

The Pacific starts here in the UK in half and hours time and I must say I am really looking forward to the series.

What are you thoughts on the series so far? Obviously if you are in the US

I've watched the first 3 episodes, the 4th one I'll catch this week. Pretty good so far. The first two were pretty standard WWII fare, mostly setting things up for what's to come, but the third episode starts getting you more involved with the central characters and the story.

So far so good, I'll keep on watching it for now.

I wouldn't call it bad, even 4th episode, but it's no BAND OF BROTHERS. First couple episodes are really good. I think 3 and 4 are passable "IF" the series is going anywhere. I'm expecting an Indianapolis and atomic bomb delivery in the end.

The third episode was definitely the best so far; I wish they would have kept going into developing the characters. The 4th seemed to go in a very strange direction, in my opinion.

I think that Band of Brothers was so good it would be hard to try and compete with it

Seen the first 2 episodes.

I noticed the beginning and end credits are really long.

I agree with the general consensus that the 4th episode was the weakest so far. The series overall has been worth watching and looking forward to the remainder of the series.

haven't seen the 3rd or 4th episode yet, but from what I have seen, definitely not as good as band of brothers, not even close in my opinion.

I'm disappointed so far.
To make the inevitable comparison, I don't feel at all drawn into the episodes or the stories - I don't feel involved in.. anything.

What made BoB so strong was it's steadfast plot direction. Every episode built up to one event, and followed a larger path. The Pacific seems to be a set of random sketches, about characters we don't even know or care about - Episode 4 was probably a flop simply because we don't really care about the character they attempted to focus on.

The real meat of the story will be near the end, when they hit Iwo Jima and Okinawa. I've read books about those two invasions, and the shit was just crazy and brutal the closer the US got to the Japanese homeland. If we didn't drop the bomb, we would have lost a million soldiers taking Tokyo.

The Jap. government was telling all the soldiers and civilians that if they were caught by Americans they would be tortured, raped and killed. I've read reports where hundreds of Japs simply jumped off cliffs so they to avoid capture.

I watched the first two episodes and have to say that i was not disappointed I thought it was rather good just need to know who we are watching. It seems that it has the potential to be really good at the end of the series.

This.

I instantly thought Band of Brothers Part II until I started watching it. The characters are vanilla and you don't get the same bond as you did with B.O.B. I have watched every episode so far and they have been pretty boring. They added more love drama bullshit which we could have totally went without. A love story in a war epic is like talking politics during sex; either way you're going to lose.

I'll continue to watch it with the hope that it will pick up and I can start to relate to the characters. But at this point, any one of them can take a Jap round to the forehead and I could care less. I'm actually hoping for it most of the time.

Episodes 3 and 4 are really poor. Specially 4.

No really good combat scenes, the human aspect in war is not neither expressed very well, or at least bringing something new in cinema or tv.

At the moment, after 4 episodes, The Pacific didnīt show a reason to be filmed. Hope to release something new soon...

I liked the concept of the 4th episode, demonstrating the range of emotional impact hellish conditions and combat can take on a person.

Suicide
enuresis
Depression
Temporary Insanity

It's a important point as we are soon going to have thousands of young men coming home suffering from PTSD which the military will not generally acknowledge.

That is good news, since the first 2 episodes seemed to be a bit 'all over the place.' But, it was my assumption that it would get better once the base lines of the story were laid out.

No BoB but pretty good otherwise. Better than a lot of stuff on TV.

I find it hard to get into as every location is just jungle and place I know little about. Whereas in BoB I've been to most of the places they thought the battles over. Helps me relate to the places and the characters better.
