I have a Windows box here at the house just for this purpose. I have a few family members I help out and when they need it, I just remote connect to their box and let them see how to get done what they need to get done.

Yes.

Also, most of my friends are the same way. They use it to surf the web, check email, and that's about it. Same for most of the models who work for me. They barely can do anything. Anytime some question comes up, I get an email.

I am not sure where all of these Mr Wizards are from GFY board lore. The one's who are endlessly downloading and thieving. I can't say I know of ONE in my immediate or secondary circles of friends and acquaintances who are stealing everything on the web.

Tech support for the wife is terrible. I can't imagine how many times I've used the phrase "I can't dumb it down any more".

Luckily tech support tickets have gone down since I got her a Mac.

ha well glad i'm not the only one - i knew i wasn't but still nice to know. what's scary about this person, one of my sisters, is that she's had a computer at work for 20 years i think. i guess at work they have an IT guy and when something goes wrong you just call for him.

the other day i walked up to my dad as he sat in front of his computer and he looked puzzled, he told me that for some reason the cursor keeps moving on the computer and he has been trying to make it stop for hours, i told him to take his cell phone off of the space bar :/

Be thankful your in-laws know what Google is. My mum is getting better with her laptop now, but initially I used to go nuts when describing how to do simple things. When I sent her links on msn she asked what does all that mean LOL. I'm like "Click the fucking link"

Also, she never knew what the address bar was, to type urls into. VERY frustrating.

I use my mum as a tester for any instructions I am writing for someone. If she can follow them without making a huge fucking mess of her computer then anybody can

My Grandma is the only one that is an utter liability. She doesn't use her computer enough to remember how to do things and also will click randomly on absolutely anything if she gets stuck. She is 85 though so does have a reasonable excuse.

I used to get the weekly tech support call from my mother in law until I started asking for credit card information (jokingly of course). Now she seems to be pretty self reliant

A few in my family don't know a whole lot, but they know at least enough to be dangerous. Several years ago in my pre-porn life I worked for a hi-tech company. I worked in a test area that tested and calibrated printers. They did a round of hiring to get more testers for a graveyard shift. I had to train most of these people and the job required you to work on a computer all day. The first day of training I say to a guy, "Just click here." and I point to the screen. He looks at me oddly. I say "Just use the mouse and select this box" and point again. He says, "Mouse?" The guy didn't even know what a mouse was. I wondered what the interview to get the job was like.

Yes, I have a few of those. Weirdly, my mother is a retired Systems Analyst but she always worked on internal "dumb" workstations, so the PC is a big change to her. She told me about a news article she found online the other day. I asked what site it was on. She said, "Oh, I was in Hotmail." So I'm guessing it was MSN. She doesn't know what "home page" means or anything like that. She's happy she finally got Media Player working to listen to her CDs.

About a month ago I caught my mom saying "The Google." I've been giving her shit ever since.

Actually it's truly amazing. My mom has been on the Internet as long as I have. And she spends a lot of time on the Internet. Yet the things she doesn't know just shock me.

About once a month my dad will call me and ask something like "hey can you buy used cell phones on the Internet?" "Uh, yeh dad, it's called eBay." What makes this even more funny is he regularly buys cars from the other side of the country completely over the Internet.

Yes. My brother is the only one besides me who's apt with computers in the fam - everyone else just has absolutely no clue what to do if anything goes wrong, how to do some simple things, paranoid of viruses, etc. It's not like they haven't been around computers/internet for 10+ years or anything.
