can someone help me add a new item to crontab??
I am trying to setup my first ever traffic trading script and could really use some help/instructions on how to add a new item to the crontab. I have the Crystal Trader script from http://www.crystal-scripts.com successfully installed, but on the instructions page at their site it explains that after installation I need to "add a new item to crontab"
I have the string for cron but just don't know what to do with it and cannot login to the admin panel until I do this last step. This is all quite foreign to me since I don't know anything at all about crontabs or cronjobs. Can someone here please help??

you have SSH access?
even if you do if you havent ever attempted something like this i would let the host do it ... off top off my head it is crontab -e to display it then it will show a editor liek VI editor then a whole bunch off other steps.. let host do it much easier or if you want to attempt it just google crontab tutorials and there are alot of step by step guides. good luck |

yes.
crontab -l will list your current crontab. crontab -e will let you edit your crontab. When the file opens, paste this into it: * * * * * cd /full_path/to/your/domain/root/directory/crtr/bin && ./cron.sh 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null (you will need to edit the path to the directory for your installation) then type the following: :wq and hit return EDIT: if that looks like a foreign language to you, then let your host do it

Even though I've been building sites for over 13 years, I haven't the first clue about SSH, Putty and all that, so I've decided to simply shoot off an email to my host and let them figure it out LOL, they can probably do in a few seconds what will take me hours to figure out from scratch when it comes to this, I'm getting a headache after only reading up on it for 45 minutes

every host I have used, crons are different. its not as simple as you would like to think. once they do it once you can probably do it next time yourself. especially if you have a control panel.
